Amsterdam Pirates leads Urbanus Tournament after two days
Nederlands

BUSSUM (Neth.) - L&D Amsterdam Pirates leads the four participating teams after Day 2 of the 37th edition of the In Memoriam Charles Urbanus Sr. Tournament. On Saturday (March 30), Amsterdam Pirates met Curaçao Neptunus in the first game of the day. That game ended in a 2-2 tie. In the next game, Neptunus lost 6-4 to Twins Oosterhout and therefore, the reigning champion was eliminated for first place. The second day ended with a 5-1 win for host HCAW against Twins.

Amsterdam Pirates opened the event on Friday-evening with a 3-1 victory against HCAW.

On Saturday, Amsterdam Pirates took an early 2-0 lead against Neptunus, scoring two unearned runs in the second inning. Neptunus then came alongside in the seventh inning, which was the last of the game.

In the afternoon, Neptunus again trailed early, but led 4-2 after three innings. However, the team failed to hold onto the lead, gave up three runs in the sixth and lost.

In the third game today, HCAW struck early against Twins in the first inning, added three runs in the fifth and recorded a convincing victory.

On Sunday, the final two games will be played at HCAW's site in Bussum. Both will be decisive for the tournament-win and there are still several scenarios possible. The lone thing that's sure at this moment is that Neptunus will not finish in first place.

In the first game, Amsterdam Pirates meets Twins. When Pirates wins, it will be the tournament-winner and the final game then will determine second place. When Twins wins, the second game becomes important. When Neptunus wins that game against HCAW, Twins will be the tournament-winner. But when HCAW wins against Neptunus, it will end up in a tie with Twins. The tie-breaker then will be the head-to-head game, which was won by HCAW, which then will be the tournament-winner.
