History
This is the third game to be played in the European Baseball Series, which has its inaugural edition this year.
In the European Baseball Series, the national teams of the Netherlands and Italy will meet annually in a 6-game series. Three games will be scheduled in the Netherlands and three in Italy.
This year, the first three games, to be played on Friday, July 7, Saturday, July 8 and Sunday July, 9, will all be played in Rotterdam (The Netherlands). Today's game starts at 1:00 PM (13:00 uur).
After completion of today's game, the teams will travel to Italy tonight.
There, the next three games are scheduled to be played on three different locations. On Monday, July 10 at Grosseto. On Tuesday, July 11 at Nettuno and on Wednesday, July 12 in Messina on Sicily. The first two games start at 9:00 PM, the third one begins at 6:00 PM.
On Friday-evening, the first game was played in Rotterdam.
The Netherlands won the opener, 2-0.
Yesterday, on Saturday, Game Two also was played in Rotterdam.
This game was won by Italy, 11-6, meaning the series is tied, 1-1.
Today is the 111th official meeting between the national teams of the Netherlands and Italy.
The Dutch team has won 66 games, Italy won 44.
In these games, the Dutch team scored 650 runs, while Italy scored 513.
Today is the 600th official international game in history for the Dutch national team.

In its wonderful late night talk show Studio Sportzomer (aired on Channel 2 - Nederland 2), the focus now will change more to the Tour de France with a daily show, starting on Monday-evening and hosted (as always) by Mart Smeets. Tonight, the show will have its last soccer edition, hosted by Jack van Gelder, as the World Soccer Championships in Germany will be concluded tonight with its final. Time again for other sports.
There is no baseball on Dutch TV today, but if you can receive RAI Satellite from Italy, you can see the next three games between the Netherlands and Italy.

Canada Cup
The Dutch Women Softball Team on Saturday was shutout 2-0 by Australia in the semi-final of the Canada Cup Tournament.
They now will face Canada in the bronze medal game on Sunday. When the Dutch team wins, it will clinch a spot in the Final. When Canada wins, the Dutch will finish in third place.
The Dutch team is playing a very strong tournament and already has won seven games, while losing only three. It marks the first time the team has reached the Play-Offs of this annual event.
Haarlem Baseball Week
The next international event in the Netherlands will be the 23rd edition of the Haarlem Baseball Week, which will be stages July 21-30 in the historic Pim Mulier Stadium in Haarlem.
Participating in this years event are the national teams of China, Chinese Taipei, Cuba, Japan, Netherlands and USA.
You can also already make a note on your agenda for next year, as the World Port Tournament in Rotterdam then will take place from August 2-12.
Preceeding the WPT is the second edition of the European Baseball Series, with the three Dutch games to be played in Haarlem. Dates have not yet been announced.
