History
This is the fourth game to be played in the European Baseball Series, which has its inaugural edition this year.
In the European Baseball Series, the national teams of the Netherlands and Italy meet annually in a 6-game series. The first three games were being played in the Netherlands, followed by this series of three in Italy.
This year, the first three games, which were played on Friday, July 7, Saturday, July 8 and Sunday July, 9, were all played in Rotterdam.
After completion of Sunday's game, the teams flew to Italy in the evening.
In Italy, the next three games are scheduled to be played on three different locations. On Monday, July 10 at Grosseto. On Tuesday, July 11 at Nettuno and on Wednesday, July 12 in Messina on Sicily.
Today's game starts at 9:00 PM, as will tomorrow's game. The third one begins at 6:00 PM.

On Friday-evening, the Netherlands won the opener, 2-0.
On Saturday, Game Two was won by Italy, 11-6.
On Sunday, the Dutch team took a 2-1 lead in the Series with a 4-0 shutout-win.

Today is the 112th official meeting between the national teams of the Netherlands and Italy.
The Dutch team has won 67 games, Italy won 44.
In these games, the Dutch team scored 654 runs, while Italy scored 513.

More history
It is exactly 50 years ago today that the national teams of the Netherlands and Italy played against each other for the first time.
On July 10, 1956, the two countries met during the European Championships in Rome. The Dutch won that historic first game with a 13-2 score and went on to win their first European title.
