Pioniers and Quick meet in Holland Series

DIEMEN (Neth.) - Hoofddorp Pioniers and Quick Amersfoort again will face each other again in this years Holland Series that will the Dutch Championship-title in Men Softball. The best-of-three again will be played at the site of TIW-Survivors in Diemen, which also hosted the Series a year ago.

Game One will be played on Saturday, starting at 12 PM, followed by Game Two. When a third game is needed, that will be played on Sunday, starting at 12 PM.

Last year, the Pioniers swept Quick in two games to repeat as Dutch champion. In the 2015 opener, Pioniers won 13-9, then trailed 8-0 in the second game, but turned the game around and won 10-8.

In 2014, Pioniers won 7-4 and 11-6 to complete a 2-game sweep in a best-of-three Final against Nieuwegein Diamonds. There were no Play-Offs that year and the Final was played between the two Pool-winners of the First Division.



This season, both Quick Amersfoort and Hoofddorp Pioniers played in Pool A of the First Division. Quick finished in first place with a 13-1 record, seven points ahead of Pioniers, which was 9-3 with one tie.

In Pool B of the First Division, Storks finished in first place with a 10-1 record and one tie, followed by Spikes, which was 7-3 with two ties.

The teams that finished in the top-two spots qualified for the best-of-three Play-Offs, which were scheduled for last weekend.

Quick swept Spikes to become the first finalist. On Saturday, Quick won 3-2 at Spikes in Spijkenisse. The next day, Quick won 7-1 at home to reach the Holland Series.

Pioniers started its best-of-three against Storks on Saturday at home with a comfortable 12-2 victory. On Sunday, the second and if needed third games were scheduled. Playing at home, Storks won the second game with a 6-2 score, but then the third game rained out. That was re-scheduled for Thursday-evening and Pioniers then won in The Hague with a 4-2 score to return to the Holland Series.

Pioniers and Quick met each other for the first this season on Friday, May 13 in Hoofddorp. Pioniers won that match-up with a 10-7 score, which was to be Quick's lone loss of the season.

A week later, on Friday, May 20, at Amersfoort, it was Quick that won 11-3.

In the two First Division-pools combined, Quick led the league with 182 runs scored. Pioniers was the second-best productive team with 173 runs scored. There were two other teams this season with 100-plus runs scored and they also played in Pool A. De Zuidvogels scored 135 runs, but finished in fourth place. Thamen scored 119, but finished in seventh place, as the team from Uithoorn also gave 172 runs.

Quick gave up only 25 runs in its 14 games played this season Storks also allowed only 25 runs but in 12 games played.

Early September, Quick captured the European ESF Cup by winning the final of the event in Italy with a 3-2 score against Pessac Panthères from France. Hoofddorp Pioniers finished in eighth place of the European Super Cup.
