The men-softball team of Quick Amersfoort has been chosen 'Sports Team of the Year' in the municipality of Amersfoort.
The city hosted the seventh edition of its annual Sportgala Amersfoort on Friday (November 25) in Theater 'De Flint'.
On that evening, winners in four categories were honored for their sportive accomplishments this year.
The evening was hosted by Jeroen Stomphorst, who is a commentator of TV-show NOS Studio Sport.
City-mayor Lucas Bolsius also attended the event.
That the Quick Amersfoort-squad would be crowned as 'Sports Team of the Year' was more or less expected, as 2016 has been very successful year for the men-softball team of the club.
Early September, Quick captured the European ESF Cup by winning the suspenseful Final of the event in Italy with a 3-2 score against Pessac Panthères from France.
In October, the Quick-men also captured the Dutch National Championship-title.
In the best-of-three Holland Series, Quick defeated reigning champion Hoofddorp Pioniers 2-1 to be crowned champion.
Also nominated for the title 'Sports Team of the Year' were ZPC Amersfoort - Relay Team Swimming (Men) and Hoogland - Soccer (Men).
Bart Ramselaar (soccer) was named 'Male Athlete of the Year' and Lisa Kruger was 'Female Athlete of the Year'.
At the Paralympic Games this year in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), the 16-year old Kruger won the Gold Medal at the 100m swimming (breaststroke), setting a new world record.
Femke Bol (triathlon) won the title of 'Sports Talent of the Year'.
CJVV (soccer) was honored as 'Sports Club of the Year', while Fred van Dorp (ZPC Amersfoort, swimming) won the 'Sportspecial Award'.
