 BUSSUM (Neth.) - Despite some chilly cold and a slight rain, Mr. Cocker HCAW opened its exhibition season today with a 14-2 win over its First Division-team, Mr. Cocker HCAW 2. The big league-team already led 8-0 after four innings. In The Hague, the game between ADO and Sparta/Feyenoord was canceled.
HCAW opened the score directly with three runs in the first inning.
Ralph Milliard and Shurty Tremus received walks, then the bases were loaded when Ronald Jaarsma singled.
Next batters Randy Daal (who came over from Instant Holland Almere '90) and Juriën Overman both grounded out, but produced a run.
Bart Gabriëls followed with a single to make it 3-0.
Three runs were added in the second inning.
Rookie Diederik Klaassen reached on an error, then Sidney Ensermo walked and Siemen Korff was hit by a pitch.
With two outs, Ralph Milliard and Shurty Tremus (2 runs) singled, increasing the lead to 6-0.
HCAW made it 8-0 by scoring twice in the fourth at bat.
Diederik Klaassen again reached on an error, then advanced to third base on a 2-out single by Jermaine Esprit, before scoring on a passed ball.
Esprit later scored on a single by Max Brevet.
In the fifth inning, HCAW-2 was able to score its first run off new pitcher Bart Gabriëls, who struckout three batters in this at bat, but also gave up an unearned run as the result of three infield-errors.
In its fifth, HCAW got the run back, which also was the result of two errors.
In the sixth, HCAW scored twice on a single by Diederik Klaassen and a double by Sidney Ensermo, then scored three more runs in the next at bat.
With one out, Ralph Milliard walked, stole second and scored on a 2-out single by Ronald Jaarsma, then Randy Daal followed with a 2-run homerun, which was the first of the exhibition season.
Now trailing 14-1, HCAW-2 scored its last run in the ninth inning when Laurens Dammers singled and scored on a single by Ricky Daal.
