Twins builds new team for Silver League-season
Nederlands

OOSTERHOUT (Neth.) - This season, De Glaskoning Twins made its comeback in the highest division. Unfortunately, the team was unable to extend its stay in the Golden League and relegated. With that, Twins will play again in the Silver League in 2017.

During the transfer-period, which ended at 5 PM on Thursday (December 1), Twins saw seven new players come to Oosterhout. The team also added three young players from its Talent Group to the main-squad. Eight players left the team, including four, who retired.

In 2017, Jeroen den Duijn will be the new Head Coach of the team. He succeeds Frank Zaal, who led Twins in the past two seasons. Den Duijn will be assisted by former big league- and National Team-outfielder Diana Remmers.

This year, Twins finished in a tie for fifth place in the Golden League with Tex Town Tigers, meaning an one-game tiebreaker was needed to decide the ranking. Twins lost and finished in sixth place, meaning the team had to play in the Promotion Relegation Play-Off. In that one-game series, Twins lost to Roef! and therefore, the team relegated. On the other hand, Roef! qualified for the Promotion/Relegation Final and went on to promote to the Golden League.

With powerhitter Claudia Kranendonk, the Oosterhout-squad added a very experienced player to its roster. This season, she was a playing coach at Zwijndrecht, for whom she played the past three seasons. Before that, the veteran catcher, who also plays at third base, played in the big league for Zwijndrecht, Twins and Gryphons. With this, she returns to the club, where she also played in 2006.

Infielder/outfielder Damishah Charles, who mostly played as short stop, played for Dutch champion Oolders Omaco Sparks Haarlem the past two seasons. Before that, she also has played in the highest division for the Talent Team Holland. But she now returns to the club, where she played before she transfered to Sparks Haarlem after the 2014 season. Since last year, Charles plays for the Netherlands National Softball Team. Damishah Charles, who also plays college-softball in the USA through May, this season batted .309 (21-for-68) with two doubles and two triples. She scored 14 runs and batted in eight.

Righthanded pitcher Carling Hare is a member of the Great Britain National Team since 2011. With the British squad, she participated in two World Championships and three European Championships. During the recent European Championship in 2015 in Rosmalen (Netherlands), Carling Hare was 3-2 and pitched in nine of the ten games the British team played. She started all nine games and struckout 29 batters in 27 2/3 inning and finished in fifth place with her team. Also in 2015, she was on the roster of Centrals in the Silver League.

Besides the three rookies, Twins also added four other young and talented players to its team, being Ellinor Keepers, Rose Mwaro, Ismay Poot and Bobbi Scheurkogel.

Ellinor Keepers has played in three big league-seasons with Gryphons, for whom she played in the Silver League in the past two seasons.

Rose Mwaro and Ismay Poot both played in the Silver League this season for Amsterdam-based Ban-Topa Future Stars. Both also have played in the program of the Dutch Junior Teams a few years ago. This year, Ismay Poot played in eleven games in the Golden League for the Talent Team Holland. She batted .125 (2-for-16) and scored four runs.

Bobbi Scheurkogel played for Gophers this season.

Righthanded pitcher Femke Duffhues (Terrasvogels), 1B/lefthanded pitcher Manon van Alebeek (Roef!) and 3B/catcher Sophie Bugter (DSS) all moved to teams who will in the Golden League next season.

Including in this group are the four best hitters of the team this season, when it made its comeback in the highest league.

Her 30 basehits were second-best of the team.
