DSS one-runs Tex Town Tigers, then lose second game

ENSCHEDE (Neth.) - All three double-headers in the Golden League were split on Saturday (May 7).

DSS won its opener against Tex Town Tigers, 1-0. DSS scored the only run in the sixth inning when Morgan Sampson led off with a single, moved on a wild pitch and a sacrifice bunt, then scored on another wild pitch.

In the second game, DSS led 3-2, but then Tex Town Tigers scored three runs in the fourth and sixth inning to win 8-3. Dominique Burger homered for DSS in the fourth inning, which was the first in her big league-career. Noa Brand had another productive outing, collecting three basehits. TTT registered 12 basehits and got a big contribution from Daniëlle ten Donkelaar, who batted in five runs. In the sixth inning, she hit a baseclearing double.

Tex Town Tigers vs. DSS (Game One)
Pitching-ace Dagmar Bloeming went the distance for DSS, struckout eleven batters, gave up only five hits, but was supported with only one run. That run was scored in the sixth inning, resulting in an 1-0 win against Tex Town Tigers in the opener.

DSS got into scoring position right away in the first inning off of starter Daniëlle ten Donkelaar, but didn't score. Lead-off hitter Noa Brand drove the ball into deep centerfield, but while trying to stretch a double into a triple, she was eliminated at third base. With two outs, Nathalie Gosewehr also doubled, but she stranded on second base.

Tex Town Tigers also left a runner in scoring position in its first at bat off of Dagmar Bloeming. With two outs, Laura Wissink singled and Nadine Marinus reached on a bunt-single, but both were left behind.

From the third inning on, DSS again got into scoring position. In the third, lead-off hitter Marijn Crouwel was hit by a pitch, then moved on a wild pitch and a sacrifice bunt, but stranded on third base. In the fourth, off of new pitcher Cheyenne Scheffer, Denice van Dijk walked with two outs and stole second base, but also was left behind. In the fith, with two outs, Noa Brand singled and Annemiek de Rover was hit by a pitch, but they also were left behind.

Tex Town Tigers was retired in order in the second, third and fourth inning. From the first inning on, Dagmar Bloeming retired 12 consecutive batters, then gave up a 2-out single to Aafje van Baal. After she had stolen second base, Bloeming closed with a strikeout.

DSS then scored in the top of the sixth inning. Morgan Sampson led off with a single, which led to a pitching change. Anna-Bè Bartels took over and she saw Sampson advance on a wild pitch and a sacrifice bunt by Belinda White. Moments later, a second wild pitch enabled Sampson to score what would be the lone run in the game. Denice van Dijk and Dominique Burger followed with singles and advanced on a sac-bunt by Marijn Crouwel, but DSS again left two runners behind in scoring position.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, with two outs, Tex Town Tigers got a runner in scoring position when Marije Oosting-ten Thij reached on an error and advanced on a passed ball. But hereafter, Dagmar Bloeming closed the game with her eleventh strikeout.

Tex Town Tigers vs. DSS (Game Two)
In the second game, Tex Town Tigers trailed twice, but turned the game its way from the fourth inning on and went on to win 8-3.

Tex Town Tigers already threatened to open the score in the first at bat when it got the bases loaded off of starter Quincey Catsburg. Annemiek Jansen led off with a walk, then stole second base with one out. She moved to third base on a single by Laura Wissink, who later moved on a grounder. With first base open, Isa Los was walked intentionally, then the inning ended with a strikeout.

In the second inning, Tex Town Tigers left two runners behind in scoring position. With one out, Monique Mooi singled, then Marije Oosting-ten Thij reached when an error was made on her sacrifice bunt, resulting in runners on second and third base. But the next two batters were retired.

DSS got only one baserunner in its first two innings off of Shaneequa Kock, but then scored twice in the top of the third inning. Marijn Crouwel led off with a double and moved on a sac-bunt by Melissa de Greef, then scored on a single by Noa Brand. Hereafter, Annemiek de Rover also singled and Nathalie Gosewehr reached on an error to make it 2-0.

After having left five runners behind in the first two innings, Tex Town Tigers was successful in the bottom of the third and also scored twice to come alongside. Laura Wissink led off with a single and Isa Los singled with one out. The two moved on a passed ball with two outs, then scored on a single by Daniëlle ten Donkelaar.

DSS re-took the lead in the fourth when Dominique Burger homered with one out. This was the first homerun in her big league-career.

Again, the lead was shortlived, as Tex Town Tiger this time reacted with three runs in its fourth at bat. Marije Oosting-ten Thij singled and moved on a sacrifice bunt and an infield-hit by Amber Krijgsman. After the latter stole second base, a force play was created by walking Laura Wissink intentionally. Hereafter, Nadine Marinus doubled to bring in the first two runners. Wissink also was waved home, but was eliminated at the plate. Moments later, Marinus scored the next run on a single by Isa Los to make it 5-3.

Tex Town Tigers took more distance in the sixth inning off of reliever Svenja de Lincel. Amber Krijgsman led off with a single and moved on a wild pitch with one out. She then advanced on a single by Nadine Marinus, who herself ended up on second base. Again, a force play was created by walking Isa Los intentionally, but again, Tex Town Tigers struck with the bases loaded. This time, it was Daniëlle ten Donkelaar, who drove the ball into left-centerfield with two outs for a baseclearing, 3-run double.
