Oolders Omaco Sparks Haarlem vs. Terrasvogels (Game One)
The opener today was a pitching duel between Kirsten Scheele of home playing Sparks Haarlem and Malou van Dusschoten of visiting Terrasvogels. Van Dusschoten was the best of the two, striking out seven batters and giving up only three hits, including two in the seventh inning! Scheele struckout six and gave up six hits, two of which led to the lone run in the game in the top of the seventh.

Malou van Dusschoten held Sparks Haarlem hitless in the first five innings. The righthander retired the side in the first inning, then walked Virginie Anneveld with one out in the second at bat. Hereafter, Van Dusschoten retired the next eight batters in a row, including three strikeouts in the fourth inning!

In the fifth inning, it was Virginie Anneveld, who also became the next baserunner for Sparks Haarlem when she reached on an error. She advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Anne Blaauwgeers, but stranded on second base.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, pinch-hitter Damishah Charles led off with a single and with that ended Van Dusschoten's No-Hitter. She moved on a sacrifice bunt by Maaike Blaauwgeers and a grounder by Jenny Kinburn. However, she appeared to be tagged out at third base when the ball was thrown back from first base to third base, but was rule safe. She stranded on third base.

In the first six innings, Sparks Haarlem got only two runners in scoring position, as did Terrasvogels in its first six at bats off of Kirsten Scheele.

After having retired the side in the first inning, Scheele gave up a lead-off single to Jessie van Aalst in the second. She was forced out on a following bunt by Lizzie Clarijs, who was caught stealing moments later.

In the third inning, Scheele retired the side again, but she then saw Terrasvogels get into scoring position in the fourth when Jessica Waasdorp doubled with one out. Two flyouts followed and so, she was left at second base.

In the fifth, Terrasvogels got its second runner into scoring position. With two outs, Sanne Korpel and Ella Krommendijk both singled, but were left behind.

Terrasvogels was retired in order again in the sixth, but then struck in the seventh. First, Jessie van Aalst lined out to Kirsten Scheele, but hereafter Lizzie Clarijs singled. With two outs, she scored when Sanne Korpel hit a triple into right-centerfield.

Leading only 1-0, Terrasvogels held on to the minimal lead in the bottom of a tense seventh inning. Karin Tuk led off with a single and was replaced by Cindy van der Zanden as pinch-runner. She moved on a sacrifice bunt by Virginie Anneveld, then advanced to third base on a 2-out single by Kiki Draaijer. With runners on first and third base, the game ended when Malou van Dusschoten closed with a a strikeout.

Oolders Omaco Sparks Haarlem vs. Terrasvogels (Game Two)
In the second game, Sparks Haarlem trailed 7-1 in the third inning and appeared to be en route to another loss. But after scoring twice in the bottom of the third, a disastrous fourth inning followed for Terrasvogels, as Sparks Haarlem rallied for 11 (!) runs on eleven basehits to win 14-7 and avoid a double loss.

Terrasvogels opened the score with two runs in the first at bat off of starter Leonella Elizabeth. Kimberly Jones led off with a single, moved on a sacrifice bunt by Ella Krommendijk and a wild pitch, then scored the first run on a double with two outs by Jessie van Aalst. Jessica Waasdorp followed with a single to make it 2-0.

Terrasvogels got the bases loaded quickly in the second inning, without hitting a basehit. Jeske Meewisse and Lisa Waasdorp both walked, then Kimberly Jones was hit by a pitch. That led to a pitching change, as Rebecca Soumeru was brought in. With the bases loaded, she got a force out at the plate, then a line drive accounted for the second out. But hereafter, Terrasvogels scored four runs. With two outs, Jessie van Aalst doubled in two runs, then another run was added when Jessica Waasdorp reached on an error, then a single by Sanne Korpel led to the fourth run and made it a 6-0 score.

Sparks Haarlem got one run back in the second inning off of starter Nienke Verhofstad. Maaike Blaauwgeers led off with a single and later scored on a grounder by Desiree Adriaansz.

In the top of the third, Terrasvogels scored another run when Jeske Meewisse reached on an error and scored on a single by Kimberly Jones to lift the lead to 7-1.

In its third inning, Sparks Haarlem scored twice. With one out, Maxime van Dalen singled and scored on a following double by Virginie Anneveld. The bases got loaded when Cindy van der Zanden walked and Maaike Blaauwgeers reached on a bunt-single. A force play-grounder by Kiki Draaijer brought in the next run.

In the top of the fourth, Terrasvogels left two runners, but still led 7-3 when the bottom of the fourth began. With one out, Kehli Washington reached on a bunt-single and Damishah Charles singled. An infield-fly accounted for the second out. But then, the inning ended disastrous for Terrasvogels, but of course went very well for Sparks Haarlem, as they rallied for eleven runs with two outs! The next eleven batters reached base safely, nine of them with a single. All nine Sparks-players scored at least once in the at bat. With runners on first and second base and two outs, Virginie Anneveld singled in the first run of the rally. Hereafter, Jessie van Aalst, who started the game at first base, was brought to relief Nienke Verhofstad. But the lefthander saw the next seven batters reach base safely. She first gave up a runscoring single to Cindy van der Zanden, then the bases got loaded when Maaike Blaauwgeers also singled. Kiki Draaijer followed with a runscoring single, then Tammie Lijbers walked, which brought in the tying run. Anne Blaauwgeers, who had led off the inning a pinch-hitter and then popped out, followed with a single that made it 8-7 in favor of Sparks Haarlem. The home team took more distance on following runscoring singles by Kehli Washington (one run) and Damishah Charles (two runs). Hereafter, Nienke Verhofstad returned as pitcher. She saw another run being scored on a passed ball, then gave up RBI-singles to Virginie Anneveld and Cindy van der Zanden that lifted the lead to 14-7.

In the top of the fifth, Lisa Waasdorp led off for Terrasvogels with a single, but was forced out. Shortly thereafter, a pop-fly was caught by pitcher Rebecca Soumeru and that also ended the game, as Sparks Haarlem had taken a mercy-rule, 7-run difference lead in the previous at bat.
