Olympia Haarlem opens with two wins against Tex Town Tigers

HAARLEM (Neth.) -
FysioExpert Olympia Haarlem opened the new season in the Golden League on Saturday (April 16) with a double victory against Tex Town Tigers.
On a cold and windy afternoon, Olympia Haarlem registered a convincing 8-0 shutout-win in 4½ inning in the opener, but faced a deficit in the second game of the double-header.
The team trailed 4-3 in the fifth inning, but then turned the game around thanks to a baseclearing, 3-run triple by Judith Buschman.
Olympia Haarlem added more runs and went on to win 11-4 in six innings.

FysioExpert Olympia Haarlem vs. Tex Town Tigers (Game One)
In the opening game, Eva Voortman struckout nine batters and gave up only three basehits in the 5-inning game.
The lefthander allowed only three runners of Tex Town Tigers to get into scoring position.
She struckout the side in the first inning, then gave up a lead-off single to Laura Wissink in the second at bat.
An error on a sacrifice bunt by Nadine Marinus followed.
Both runners got into scoring position thanks to a sac-bunt by Isa Los, but they both stranded.
In the fourth, Nadine Marinus singled with two outs, stole second base and moved on a wild pitch, but also was left on third base.
Olympia Haarlem opened the score with five runs in the second inning off of starter Cheyenne Scheffer.
Rachel van Veen led off with a single, then scored when an outfield-error followed on a single by Stephanie Ruiter, who herself ended up on third base.
She then scored when next batter Maranca Ham also singled.
The bases got loaded when Judith Buschman delivered the fourth consecutive basehit and Eva Voortman walked with one out.
That led to a pitching change.
Shaneequa Kock took over, but was greeted with a 2-run double by Dinet Oosting.
The bases were re-loaded when Brenda Beers walked, then the next run was scored on a sacrifice fly by Mariëlle Vleugels, the ninth batter in this inning.
The at bat ended when Rachel van Veen lined out to centerfield.

In the third inning, Olympia added two basehits.
The inning began with a nice defensive play by short stop Myrthe Smid on a grounder by Stephanie Ruiter.
Maranca Ham followed with a single, but was forced out.
Hereafter, French player Pauline Prade connected for her first basehit in the Dutch Golden League, but was left behind.
She became only the third French player in history to play in the highest Dutch league, following Isabelle Charmoille (1995, Robur '58; 1996, Amsterdam Pirates) and Raina Hunter (2013, Alcmaria Victrix).
Olympia added three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Dinet Oosting led off with a single, but was forced out on a grounder by Brenda Beers.
The latter then injured her hamstring during a steal-attempt while returning to first base.
She had to leave the game and was replaced by pinch-runner Cheska Ham, who then advanced to third base on a following double by Mariëlle Vleugels, the Most Valuable Player of last years Golden League.
A single by Rachel van Veen led to a run, as did a sacrifice line drive by Stephanie Ruiter and a single by Maranca Ham (who was 3-for-3), which lifted the lead to 8-0.
With two outs in the top of the fifth inning, Shaneequa Kock registered the third basehit for Tex Town Tigers.
Moments later, the game ended when she was ruled out for leaving first base too early with two outs.

In the second game, which had some rain in the first inning (and also later in the game), Olympia Haarlem took an early 3-0 lead, but suddenly trailed 4-3 in the fifth inning.
The home team then rallied for four runs in the fifth and sixth inning to register a mercy-rule victory after all with a 11-4 score.
Judith Buschman played a big part in the comeback, as she batted in five of the eight runs in the last two innings.
Olympia Haarlem scored its first two runs in the first inning off of starter Daniëlle ten Donkelaar.
Eva Voortman led off with a triple and scored on a following single by Dinet Oosting, who was 3-for-4 in this game.
The bases then got loaded when Stephanie Ruiter was hit by a pitch and Mariëlle Vleugels walked.
A following walk for Rachel van Veen accounted for the second run, but hereafter a force out at the plate and a double play ended the at bat.
The home team added a run in the second inning when Eva Voortman walked with two outs and scored, thanks to her speed, on a single in left-centerfield by Dinet Oosting to make it a 3-0 score.
Olympia Haarlem then left runners on second and third base in the third at bat.
With two outs, Tyla Morrison reached on a bad-hop single, then a single by Maranca Ham led to two runners in scoring position.
They stranded when a line drive by Judith Buschman ended the inning.
Like Pauline Prade in the first game, Tyla Morrison also registered her first Dutch big league-basehit in her debuting game.
Tyla Morrison became the third player from New Zealand to play in the highest Dutch league.
She follows Kylee Stevens (1995, HCAW) and Katrina Nukunuku-Stockford (2008, Tex Town Tigers).

Mariëlle Vleugels started for Olympia Haarlem and retired the first seven batters she faced and nine of the first ten.
But in the fourth inning, she gave up two runs to Tex Town Tigers.
With two outs, Laura Wissink (fielder's choice) was on first base, but was replaced by temporary runner Annemiek Jansen.
She stole second base, then scored on a single by Nadine Marinus, who herself ended up on second base, as an outfield-error followed.
Moments later, she scored on a single by Isa Los.
Tex Town Tigers then took a 4-3 lead in the next inning.
Daniëlle ten Donkelaar led off with a single and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Shaneequa Kock.
Myrthe Smid followed with a single, which led to runners on first and third base.
After Smid had advanced on a wild pitch, both runners scored when pinch-hitter Aafje van Baal delivered a 2-run double.
Amber Krijgsman, who she had batted for, then re-entered as pinch-runner.
She was eliminated at the plate trying to score (from second base) on a hard grounder by Annemiek Jansen.
The latter was retired at first base on a 3-4-3 play, then 1B Maranca Ham got the ball in time to catcher Stephanie Ruiter to complete the double play and end the inning.
In the bottom of the fifth, Olympia Haarlem answered with a 4-run rally off of Shaneequa Kock, who had taken over the pitching in the previous inning.
The bases got loaded quickly.
Mariëlle Vleugels led off with a walk, then Rachel van Veen singled, followed by a bunt-single by Tyla Morrison.
Vleugels was then forced out on a grounder by Maranca Ham, but hereafter, Judith Buschman drilled the ball into left-centerfield for a baseclearing, 3-run triple that gave Olympia a renewed lead.
Moments later, she scored herself on a 2-out single by Eva Voortman.
Olympia then reached the required 7-run, mercy-rule difference in the sixth at bat.
With one out, Stephanie Ruiter walked.
This was followed by back-to-back, RBI-doubles by Mariëlle Vleugels and Rachel van Veen.
The bases then got loaded when Tyla Morrison walked and Maranca Ham reached on an error.
Hereafter, Judith Buschman delivered a walk-off, 2-run single that made it 11-4.
In this game, she was 2-for-4, scored once and batted in five runs.
In the opener, she batted 2-for-3 and also scored once.
