Nederlands
SANTPOORT-ZUID (Neth.) -
The first game scheduled to be played by the preliminary selection of the Netherlands National Women's Softball Team rained out on Wednesday-evening (May 18).
The Orange squad of Head Coach Juni Francisca was to play against an All Star Team at the site of Terrasvogels in Sanpoort-Zuid.
About a half hour before the start of the game, a brief (some ten minutes), but heavy rainshower, accompanied by thunder and some lightning, blanked the field.
And with that, the decision by the umpiring crew was easy: no game today, as the field had become unplayable.
The All Star-squad was the be coached by Nick Braakman (Head Coach Terrasvogels) and Peter van Dalen (Head Coach Oolders Omaco Sparks Haarlem).
The match-up was the opening game of this years Holland Tour, which is the annual series of exhibition games in which the National Team prepares itself for an upcoming international event.
In July, the Orange squad participates in the World Championship in Canada.
In the next games of the Holland Tour, the Netherlands Team will face men softball-teams and play at several locations.
The Dutch Team now will play its next game Wednesday, June 1 at Nieuwegein, where it will meet the men softball-team of Nieuwegein Diamonds.
