Nederlands
HAARLEM / ENSCHEDE / SANTPOORT-ZUID (Neth.) -
Oolders Omaco Sparks Haarlem, FysioExpert Olympia Haarlem and De Glaskoning Twins all won their double-header on Saturday (May 21) and are currently the top-3 in the Golden League.
At Haarlem, Sparks Haarlem shutout DSS twice, 1-0 and 9-9.
The opener was a pitching duel between former teammates Dagmar Bloeming (DSS) and Rebecca Soumeru (Sparks Haarlem).
Bloeming struckout 10, while Soumeru struckout nine.
Both gave up only three basehits.
The lone run was scored in the fourth inning due to two errors.
But there was more in the opener, as it saw one of the quickest ejections in history.
In the top of the first inning, Anne Blaauwgeers, only the second batter in the game for Sparks Haarlem, reached first base on a bunt-single.
DSS Assistant Coach Nick Tieman saw it differently, reacted and was ejected by Home Plate Umpire Mariana Atanasova.
In the top of the sixth inning, DSS short stop Morgan Sampson had to leave the game with a shoulder-injury.
With one out, Damishah Charles doubled and ran into Sampson on a grounder by next batter Karin Tuk.
That resulted in a hard collission and Charles was ruled out for interference.
Sampson went for X-rays to the hospital, where a possible tear in a tendon in her left-shoulder was diagnosed.
In the second game, Sparks Haarlem won 9-0 in six innings on 12 basehits, including three by Maaike Blaauwgeers.
Leading 3-0, Sparks Haarlem rallied for six runs in the sixth at bat, resulting in a mercy-rule ending.
Winning pitcher Kirsten Scheele struckout eight batters.
At Enschede, Olympia Haarlem won big twice against Tex Town Tigers, 15-1 and 12-5.
In the opener, which lasted five innings, Olympia collected 18 basehits, including four by Dinet Oosting, while Maranca Ham batted in five runs.
Winning pitcher Eva Voortman gave up two hits in five innings.
Olympia scored five runs in both the third and fifth at bat.
Laura Wissink accounted for the lone TTT-run with a homerun.
In the second game, Olympia Haarlem rallied for six runs in the first inning and led 10-1 in the third, but nevertheless, all seven innings were needed.
In this game, Olympia collected 20 basehits, including three by Eva Voortman, Dinet Oosting, Rachel van Veen and Tyla Morrison.
At Santpoort-Zuid, Twins won twice against Terrasvogels, 5-4 and 9-2.
In the opener, Terrasvogels led 4-0 after two innings.
The second inning ended with a crucial moment.
With a 4-0 lead, runners on second and third base and two outs, Lizzie Clarijs drove the ball into left-centerfield for an apparent 2-run double.
However, the inning ended when it was ruled that the runner on third base had left her base too early.
In the next at bat, Twins scored twice, came alongside by scoring in the fifth and sixth, then won in the eighth inning on a single by Lieke Duffhues.
In the second game, Twins collected 13 basehits, including a 2-run homerun by Minke Blok.
Terrasvogels registered only four basehits in seven innings off of American Kaitlyn Medlam, who also threw the tie-break inning in the opener.
