DSS vs. Terrasvogels
After Terrasvogels had stranded two runners in the top of the first inning, DSS struck with a run in its first at bat.
Noa Brand led off with a single and advanced on a wild pitch, then scored on a one-out single by Denice van Dijk.
A double play ended the at bat.
In the top of the second inning, it was the DSS-defense that turned a double play.
An important play followed in the bottom of the second inning.
With one out, Annemiek de Rover walked.
Marijn Crouwel followed with a pop-fly single which landed in short rightfield near the foul-line.
There, rightfielder Lisa Waasdorp was quickly to field the ball.
Just after rounding second base, De Rover tried to advance to third base, but ended up some meters short after a nice throw from Lisa Waasdorp to her sister and 3B Jessica Waasdorp.
With that, DSS had two outs, instead on runners on first and second base with one out.
A grounder then ended the at bat.
In the top of the third inning, DSS-pitcher Svenja de Lincel got a quick first out, then threw a strike on next batter Lizzie Clarijs.
At the same moment, a big bang and several screams were heard as the gallery suddenly collapsed, resulting the game being interrupted.
When it was decided the resume the game, both teams were given some time to warm up again.
After a 36-minute delay, Clarijs stepped back into the batter's box to continue her at bat, but struckout.
Hereafter, Britt Vonk walked and stole second base, but was left behind.
In the bottom of the third inning, Noa Brand led off with her second basehit and moved on a sacrifice bunt.
With two outs, Denice van Dijk walked, but this time, DSS stranded two runners.

In the top of the fourth inning, the game started to turn the way of Terrasvogels.
With two outs, Rhowan Stuart doubled down the leftfield-line and scored the tying run on a following single by Jeske Meewisse, who advanced herself on the throw to the plate.
She then scored the go-ahead run when next batter Ella Krommendijk also singled.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Malou van Dusschoten took over the Terrasvogels-pitching from starter Dani Bonnet.
She held DSS both hitless and scoreless in the remaining three innings, but got the bases loaded in the fifth.
She walked lead-off hitter Noa Brand, then hit next batter Belinda White with a pitch.
The two moved on a sacrifice bunt by Nathalie Gosewehr and a strikeout accounted for the second out.
Powerhitter Areke Spel was then inserted as pinch-hitter, but with first base open, she of course was walked intentionally, not only to pitch around her, but also to set up a force play.
Van Dusschoten closed the scoring threat with a strikeout, meaning DSS left three runners behind.
In the top of the sixth, Jessica Waasdorp led off for Terrasvogels and reached on an error, but was caught stealing.
Hereafter, DSS-short stop Belinda White made a great diving catch on a line drive by Rhowan Stuart and Terrasvogels later would leave a runner behind on first base.
DSS also stranded a runner on first base in its sixth at bat.
In the top of the seventh inning, still leading only 2-1, Terrasvogels decided the game with an 8-run rally.
All runs were unearned, as two outfield-errors were involved, one of them leading to three runs.
With the bases loaded, the first run was scored on a sacrifice fly by Lisa Waasdorp, then Jessica Waasdorp delivered a runscoring single, as did Jeske Meewisse.
After a basesloaded walked or Ella Krommendijk, three runs were scored on the error, then a passed ball accounted for the eighth run in the at bat.
In the bottom of the seventh, Nathalie Goswehr walked with one out for DSS, but was left behind.
And so, at 11:21 PM, a pop-foul ended an eventful evening.
There were a lot of pitches and walks in tonight's game, which lasted two hours and 14 minutes.
The two DSS-pitchers walked ten batters and threw 158 pitches, while the two Terrasvogels-pitchers walked eight batters and combined threw 124 pitches.
With that, the four pitchers combined delivered 282 pitches!
But they were all judged fine again by veteran Home Plate Umpire Carolien Stadhouders, who (again) had a fine evening behind the plate.
On Wednesday, Terrasvogels meets Oolders Omaco Sparks Haarlem at home.
The additional series closes on Thursday when Sparks Haarlem hosts DSS.
Both games start at 8:30 PM.
The series of three additional games is needed to be played to come to a decisive ranking in the Golden League Play-Offs after the first series, played last last weekend, remained undecisive.
There was one decision, but that concerned the team that finished in fourth place.
The top-3 ended up in a tie.
On Saturday, three games were played at the site of Terrasvogels in Santpoort-Zuid, then three more followed on Sunday at the site of Oolders Omaco Sparks Haarlem in Haarlem.
Participating in these Play-Offs were the top-four teams of the regular season in the Golden League.
The ranking of these series would decide the situation for the final games to be played coming weekend.
The team finishing in fourth place would be eliminated, while the team in first place would automatically qualify for the Holland Series, which again is only a best-of-one this season and will be played on Sunday.
The teams that finish in second and third place will meet in the Play-Off Final (also a best-of-one), that will be played on Saturday.
The winner of that game becomes the second finalist.
However, the regulations for the Play-Offs, including the tie-breakers in case of a tie between two, or more, teams, were distributed not in time to the teams.
That led to a protest, which was granted, meaning these regulations could not be used.
With that, a series of additional play-off games will have to be played.
When teams end up in a tie during the regular season, the ranking also is decided with the playing of an additional game.
That was needed twice this season.
In the weekend, FysioExpert Olympia Haarlem was swept in three games, resulting in a surprise elimination for the top-3.
Last year, Olympia Haarlem had reached the Holland Series.
Earlier this year, the team captured the European Cup Winners Cup.
The weekend ended with a 5-4 victory for Terrasvogels in eight innings against Sparks Haarlem and that resulted in a 3-way tie and the scheduling of the additional three games.
