On Saturday (April 30), the catcher of reigning champion Oolders Omaco Sparks Haarlem and the Netherlands National Softball Team belted her third homerun of the season in the opener at home against FysioExpert Olympia Haarlem. Leading 5-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning, with runners on first and second base and two outs, Karin Tuk made good contact on an 0-2 pitch of lefthander Eva Voortman. The ball ended up over the centerfield-fence for a 3-run homerun, which was the 45th in her big league-career. And with that, she took sole possession of first place on the All-Time Homerun-list.

When the season started, Karin Tuk was in third place, trailing Monique Fris, who had hit 43 homeruns in her career, and record-holder Debby Connor, who had 44. She then homered in the first weekend in the opener of the double-header against the Talent Team Holland to move into a tie for second place. A week ago, Karin Tuk homered in the second game against Tex Town Tigers to come alongside former teammate Debby Connor.

With her homerun today, Karin Tuk becomes the All-Time Homerun-recordholder in the highest Dutch softball-league. In 2013, she already had set a single-season record when she became the first player in history to hit ten homeruns.

Sparks Haarlem won the game, 8-3, then lost the second game, 5-2. In this second game, Virginie Anneveld played in her first game for Sparks Haarlem after returning from New Zealand. She walked four times!

Oolders Omaco Sparks Haarlem vs. FysioExpert Olympia Haarlem (Game One)
In the opener, Olympia Haarlem initially took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning off of starter Rebecca Soumeru. The veteran righthander gave up a lead-off bunt-single to Eva Voortman, who advanced on a following throwring error. Hereafter, Dinet Oosting walked, then the bases got loaded when Brenda Beers also reached on a bunt-single. Mariëlle Vleugels followed with a 2-run single. But hereafter, the game went the of Sparks Haarlem. Vleugels was caught stealing, then next two batters were retired, Sparks Haarlem scored a run in its first at bat and took the lead in the third.

In the bottom of the first inning, off of Eva Voortman, Sparks Haarlem got one run back when Anne Blaauwgeers tripled with one out and scored on a sacrifice fly by Karin Tuk.

Sparks Haarlem then erased the deficit with a 4-run rally with two outs in the third inning. With one out, Kehli Washington walked, as did Karin Tuk with two outs. A following single by Maxime van Dalen brought in the tying run. Sparks Haarlem then took the lead when a run was scored after Damishah Charles reached on an error. The bases were loaded when Jenny Kinburn singled, then another error was made on a grounder by Maaike Blaauwgeers, resulting in the next run. A runscoring single by Cindy van der Zanden made it a 5-1 score.

The highlight of the day then came in the sixth inning. With two outs, Kehli Washington and Anne Blaauwgeers both reached on an error. Hereafter, Karin Tuk drove the ball over the centerfield-fence for her record-setting, 45th career homerun.

Karin Tuk hit her first homerun in the highest division almost exactly ten years ago, on May 13, 2006. In that year, she played in her third big league-season for Euro Stars. After having not homered in her first two seasons, she made good contact on May 13, 2006 in her 73rd big league-game. Euro Stars then played in Enschede against Tex Town Tigers and faced Lindsey Meadows. Karin Tuk homered in the fourth inning and that would be the lone run in the game. It was a memorable homerun, as Tex Town Tigers filed a protest, stating the ball was in play after hitting a higher fence behind a lower fence. The two fences combined should be the outfield-fence, while the rest of the field only had a low fence, except for centerfield. Tex Town Tigers didn't win the protest and so, Karin Tuk had hit her first career big league-homerun.

After scoring twice in the first inning, Olympia Haarlem left a runner in scoring position in the second inning. In the third at bat, Dinet Oosting was at second base with one out, but then was ruled for interference while trying to advance on a following grounder. The next time that Olympia Haarlem got into scoring position again was in the sixth, but then two runners were left behind.

They added its third run in the seventh off of reliever Leonella Elizabeth. Pinch-hitter Pauline Prade then walked, moved to second base on a single by Eva Voortman and advanced to third when Dinet Oosting flied out. Moments later, she scored in a double-steal situation.

Oolders Omaco Sparks Haarlem vs. FysioExpert Olympia Haarlem (Game Two)
In the second game, Olympia Haarlem again opened the score by scoring twice in the first at bat. Sparks Haarlem came alongside, but this time, it was Olympia Haarlem that re-took the lead and turned the game its way from the fifth inning on.

In the top of the first inning, off of starter Kirsten Scheele, Eva Voortman led off with a triple and scored on a following single by Dinet Oosting. The latter moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Brenda Beers, then scored on a single by Mariëlle Vleugels, who was eliminated herself near second base trying to advanced on the throw to the plate.

Sparks Haarlem got one run back in the bottom of the first inning off of Mariëlle Vleugels, who went the distance for Olympia. Kehli Washington led off with a single, advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Anne Blaauwgeers and a single by Karin Tuk, then scored on a grounder by Maxime van Dalen. A single by Damishah Charles and walk for Virginie Anneveld loaded the bases, but three runners were left behind.

For Virginie Anneveld, this was her first game of the season for Sparks Haarlem. She recently returned home from New Zealand, where she played the past winter. In this game, she played at her familiar position at third base.

In the third inning, Sparks Haarlem came alongside, but again left three runners behind. Anne Blaauwgeers and Karin Tuk led off with singles, then Maxime van Dalen followed with a runscoring double to make it 2-2. With runners on second and third base, a foul-fly accounted for the first out. With first base open, Virginie Anneveld was walked intentionally to set up a force play. At that is what happened, as Tuk was forced out at the plate, then a pop-up ended the at bat, leaving three more runners behind.

Olympia Haarlem re-took the lead in the top of the fifth inning. With one out, Maranca Ham walked, then advanced on a wild pitch and an infield-hit by Pauline Prade. The bases got loaded when no outs were made on a fielder's choice-grounder by Eva Voortman. Dinet Oosting followed with a sacrifice fly that gave Olympia Haarlem a 3-2 lead. That led to a pitching change, as Kirsten Scheele was relieved by Ginger de Weert, who closed the inning with a strikeout.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Sparks Haarlem left the bases loaded for the third time in this game. With one out, Maxime van Dalen walked and moved on a sac-bunt. Virginie Anneveld then was walked intentionally again, but a single by Cindy van der Zanden loaded the bases. A force play-grounder ended the at bat.

After Sparks Haarlem left two more runners in the sixth inning, Olympia Haarlem added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh. That was done off of Leonella Elizabeth, who had taken over for De Weert in the sixth inning. Pauline Prade and Eva Voortman began the at bat with singles, then both advanced on a flyout. A single by Brenda Beers and sacrifice fly by Mariëlle Vleugels then lifted the lead to 5-2.

In the bottom of the seventh, with one out, Virginie Anneveld received her fourth walk of the game, this time her second 'regular' walk. She advanced when an error was made on a grounder by Cindy van der Zanden, but both were left behind. And with that, Sparks Haarlem stranded 13 runners in this game, including nine in scoring position!
