DSS wins first double-header of season

HAARLEM (Neth.) - DSS won its first double-header of the season on Saturday (June 3), winning 2-1 and 3-0 against Tex Town Tigers.

In previous weeks, DSS won only four of its 16 games played. On the other hand, Tex Town Tigers won 10 of its 20 games to move into a tie for third place.

DSS now has won five consecutive games to move closer to fifth-placed Roef!, which today was shutout twice by Oolders Omaco Sparks Haarlem. DSS is now only two points behind Roef!

In today's opener, DSS won the game on a walk-off sacrifice fly by rookie Feline Poot in the seventh inning. In the second game, DSS scored the deciding runs earlier and led 3-0 after three innings.

DSS vs. Tex Town Tigers (game one)
In the opening game, DSS was outhit 8-4, but left the field victorious, scoring the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Both teams scored a run in the first inning.

With two outs in the top of the first, Nadine Marinus and Laura Wissink singled for Tex Town Tigers off of Quincey Catsburg. TTT then opened the score when next batter Lindsey Meadows also singled. That brought Wissink's temporary runner Annemiek Jansen to third base, while Meadows moved to second base on the throw to the plate. A flyout followed and so, TTT left runners behind on second and third base.

In the bottom of the first inning, DSS came alongside off of Lindsey Meadows, who went the distance for Tex Town Tigers. With one out, Areke Spel singled and stole second base. With two outs, she scored the tying run on a double by Sophie Bugter, who moved on a passed ball, but also was left behind on third base.

TTT got into scoring position again in the third inning. Olivia Hornstein led off with a bunt-single and with one out, an error was made on a force play-grounder by Nadine Marinus. The scoring opportunity ended when DSS turned a double play.

In the fourth, Lindsey Meadows led off with a single for TTT, stole second base, advanced on a grounder, but also stranded.

In the top of the sixth, Laura Wissink led off with a double, then Lindsey Meadows was walked intentionally. The DSS-defense then turned another double play and a grounder ended the at bat.

DSS got two runners into scoring position in the second through sixth inning. In the second, Feline Poot led off with a walk, advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Denice van Dijk, but then was left behind. DSS was then retired in order in the third, fourth and fifth inning.

After Lindsey Meadows had retired 12 consecutive batters, she gave up a lead-off single to Noa Brand in the bottom of the sixth. She also got into scoring position after a sacrifice bunt by Areke Spel, but stranded.

In the top of the seventh, Daniëlle ten Donkelaar led off for Tex Town Tigers with a single and moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Myrthe Smid. Hereafter, Dagmar Bloeming took over the pitching and struckout the next two batters, ending another scoring opportunity of TTT.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, DSS decided the game. Lisa Waasdorp led off with a triple, which was only the fourth basehit allowed by Lindsey Meadows, who struckout nine batters. Hereafter, rookie Feline Poot hit the ball into rightfield, which became a walk-off sacrifice fly, as Waasdorp scored the winning run!

DSS vs. Tex Town Tigers (game two)
Winning pitcher Dagmar Bloeming went the distance for DSS, struckout nine batters and gave up only four hits to earn her second win of the day. She was supported with three runs in the first three at bats and DSS hold onto the lead to win its first double-header of the season.

Tex Town Tigers got into scoring position first. Olivia Hornstein led off with a single, moved on a sacrifice bunt to second base, but was left behind.

DSS then opened the score with two runs in the bottom of the first inning off of starter Anna-Bè Bartels. With two outs, Sophie Bugter singled, stole second base and scored on a single by Lisa Waasdorp. Hereafter, Feline Poot also singled and Denice van Dijk followed with the fourth consecutive basehit, a runscoring single that made it a 2-0 score.

DSS got close to another run in the second at bat when Annemiek de Rover led off with a double, but she was left behind on third base.

In the third, DSS did add another run. Areke Spel led off with a single, which led to a pitching change. Daniëlle ten Donkelaar took over from Anna-Bè Bartels. She gave up a single down the rightfield-line from Sophie Bugter that enabled Spel to score all the way from first base to make it a 3-0 score.

In the remainder of the game, DSS got into scoring position two more times. In the fifth, Areke Spel doubled with one out, but was left behind on second base. In the sixth, Denice van Dijk reached on a fielder's choice, but also stranded on second base.

Winning pitcher Dagmar Bloeming saw Tex Town Tigers get into scoring position once in the first three innings. In the opening at bat, Olivia Hornstein led off with a single, moved on a sacrifice bunt, but was left on second base.

With DSS leading 3-0, Tex Town Tigers got close to do some scoring in the fourth, but two runners were eliminated at the plate. Annemiek Jansen led off with a single, then Laura Wissink reached on an error, which led to runners at first and third base. Jansen was then eliminated at the plate trying to score on a grounder to short by Lindsey Meadows. Nadine Marinus then followed with a single. Wissink tried to score on this hit, but also was tagged out at the plate. A strikeout ended the inning.

In the sixth, Tex Town Tigers got another scoring opportunity, but left three runners behind. Lead-off hitter Lizzy Uytendaal reached on an error and moved on a passed ball with one out. Hereafter, Laura Wissink also reached on an error and the two runners advanced on a wild pitch. The bases got loaded when Lindsey Meadows walked. But Uytendaal was then forced out at the plate on a grounder by Nadine Marinus and a grounder then ended the at bat.

In the top of the seventh, Dagmar Bloeming retired the side to end the game.
