Olympia Haarlem first to qualify for Play-Offs after double win against Talents

HAARLEM (Neth.) - FysioExpert Olympia Haarlem won twice against the Talent Team Holland on Sunday (June 11). The league-leader won 18-3 in the opener and with that, it became the first team to secure a spot in the Play-Offs. Olympia Haarlem won the second game with a 9-4 score.

In the opener, with a 7-4 lead, Olympia Haarlem rallied for 11 runs in the fifth inning to register a big win. The team collected 22 basehits, including three by Dinet Oosting (who homered), Emma Wójcik (who scored four runs), Cheska Ham and Amber Krijgsman. Olympia used eleven batters offensively and all of them hit at least one basehit, including pitcher Ilona Andringa, who got a pinch-hit appearance.

The 18 runs were the most this season by one team and are the most since Tex Town Town Tigers scored 21 runs against the Talent Team on May 22 of last season. Back then, the Talent Team was the last team to register 22 basehits in a single game.

In the second game, Roos-Marijn Kramer threw her first 7-inning complete game for Olympia Haarlem. She struckout six batters, gave up six hits, but also walked nine batters. In 2015, the righthander threw three 7-inning complete games (all wins) while pitching for the Talent Team Holland. Olympia collected 13 basehits, including three by Maranca Ham and Tomoko Goda.

Talent Team Holland vs. FysioExpert Olympia Haarlem (game one)
After a scoreless first inning, Olympia Haarlem opened the score in the second at bat off of starter Nina Hendriks. She made her first appearance in the team and also made her debut in the highest Dutch league. Some years ago, she pitched in the second highest league for UVV and Amsterdam Pirates, before leaving for Canada. With one out, Emma Wójcik doubled. She then advanced on a flyout and scored when a throwing error followed.

The Talent Team came alongside in its second at bat off of Ilona Andringa. With one out, the righthander gave up singles to Tammie Lijbers and Rhowan Stuart, then with two outs, a runscoring single to Nina Oomes that made it an 1-1 score. Two runners were left behind when Andringa closed with a strikeout.

Olympia Haarlem re-took the lead in the third inning. With one out, Brenda Beers singled, stole second base and scored on a single by Dinet Oosting. The latter then also stole second and advanced to third base on an error, then scored on a 2-out double by Mariëlle Vleugels.

The Talent Team narrowed the deficit to 3-2 by scoring again in the bottom of the third. With one out, the sisters Ismay Poot and Feline Poot both singled to put runners at the corners. When Feline then took off to steal second base, Ismay went on the steal the plate and score.

Olympia took more distance by scoring four runs in the fourth off of new pitcher Daniëlle ten Donkelaar. Emma Wójcik led off with a double and scored on a single by Cheska Ham, who was called out moments later for leaving first base too early. Stephanie Pearce then tripled and Amber Krijgsman reached on an infield-hit. A run was then scored on a sacrifice fly by Brenda Beers and Dinet Oosting followed with a 2-run homerun to lift the lead to 7-2.

The Talent Team again reacted with a run, but as it was only one run, Olympia Haarlem still had a comfortable lead. In the bottom of the fourth, Rhowan Stuart led off with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly on foul territory by Yindi Beekveldt.

Olympia Haarlem completely broke open the game in the top of the fifth inning, scoring 11 runs on 12 basehits. In the inning, 16 batters stepped up to the plate. Rachel van Veen, Cheska Ham and Amber Krijgsman all had two basehits in this at bat. Van Veen, Ham and Emma Wójcik all scored twice.

With one out in the at bat, seven consecutive basehits followed off of Kim Horsten, who started this inning in relief. Rachel van Veen began the rally with a double and scored on a following triple by Emma Wójcik, who herself scored on an error. The bases then got loaded when Cheska Ham singled, Stephanie Pearce doubled and Amber Krijgsman reached on an infield-hit. Hereafter, Brenda Beers delivered a 2-run single, Dinet Oosting hit an RBI-double and Jessie van Aalst added a sacrifice fly. With two outs, Tomoko Goda doubled and scored on a single by Rachel van Veen. Wójcik then reached on an error and Cheska Ham added a 2-run single. A pitching change then followed, as starter Nina Hendriks returned in the game. Olympia-pitcher Ilona Andringa then entered the game as pinch-hitter and also singled. Hereafter, Amber Krijgsman batted in the eleventh and final run in this inning with another basehit.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Talent Team got one more baserunner when Uchenna Jong Loy was hit by a pitch with two outs, but a grounder then ended the game.

Ilona Andringa, who went the distance for Olympia Haarlem, won her eighth game and became the second pitcher this season to reach this mark. On Saturday, Dani Bonnet of Terrasvogels became the first pitcher this year to win her eighth game.

Talent Team Holland vs. FysioExpert Olympia Haarlem (game two)
In the second game, Olympia Haarlem took more distance earlier, as the team rallied for five runs in the top of the first inning off of starter Isanthe Rouwenhorst. Brenda Beers led off the game with a bunt-single, stole second base and scored when Dinet Oosting delivered a single. Oosting then stole second, advanced on an error and scored the next run on a single by Jessie van Aalst. Next batter Maranca Ham also singled. Van Aalst and Ham advanced on a grounder, then both scored on a triple by Tomoko Goda, who scored herself moments later on a grounder by Stephanie Pearce to make it a 5-0 score.

After Olympia stranded two runners in the top of the second inning, the Talent Team got two runs back in the home half off of Roos-Marijn Kramer, who went the distance for Olympia Haarlem. Rhowan Stuart led off with a single and Ismay Poot walked. The first then advanced on a foul-out and scored in a double-steal situation. With Poot on second base, Lisa de Vries walked and Rose Mwaro followed with an infield-hit. When that was followed by a throwing error, a run was scored to make it a 5-2 score.

After reliever Nicole van Eijl retired the side in the top of the third, the Talent Team threatened to do some scoring again In the bottom of the third. Tammie Lijbers led off with a single and the bases got loaded with one out when Rhowan Stuart and Ismay Poot both walked. A force out at the plate then followed and the inning ended when Lisa de Vries lined out.

In the fourth, Olympia Haarlem took more distance, scoring two runs. With two outs, Dinet Oosting singled and Jessie van Aalst reached on an error, then respectively scored on singles by Maranca Ham and Masha Meloni. A single by Tomoko Goda then loaded then bases, but three runners were left behind.

In the fifth, Olympia stranded two runners, but also added another run. With two outs and the bases loaded, Emma Wójcik scored on a wild pitch from Lisa Hop, who took over the pitching in this inning.

Olympia added another run in the sixth. Masha Meloni led off with a walk, moved on a wild pitch and a single, then scored on a sacrifice fly by Stephanie Pearce.

Trailing 9-2, the Talent Team scored twice in the bottom of the sixth, but it could have been more, Pinch-hitter Daniëlle ten Donkelaar led off with a walk, then Ismay Poot re-entered as pinch-runner and reached third base on two consecutive wild pitches. Yindi Beekveldt then walked and when she stole second base, Poot scored. Lisa de Vries then became the third batter to walk and after a double-steal, Rose Mwaro delivered a runscoring infield-hit. Beekveldt scored, but De Vries was eliminated trying to advance to third base. With Mwaro on second base, Feline Poot reached on an infield-hit. Moments later, Mwaro was forced out on a grounder by Onaisha Franka. A wild pitch brought the runners to second and third base, but were then left behind when a flyout ended the inning.

Both teams left a runner a runner on first base in the seventh inning, but no more runs were added.
