Olympia Haarlem opens new season with two victories

HAARLEM (Neth.) -
FysioExpert Olympia Haarlem opened the new season on Saturday (April 15) with two victories against DSS.
Olympia Haarlem shutout DSS 2-0 in the opener, then won 8-3 in the second game of the double-header.
Last season, DSS eliminated Olympia Haarlem in the Play-Offs Round.
With that, Olympia didn't qualify for the Championship Weekend, while DSS advanced, but then was also eliminated in the next round.
In the past two weeks, Olympia Haarlem won two international tournaments.
Two weeks ago, the team won the J.C.J. Mastenbroek Tournament in Enschede and last week, it hosted and won the Jan de Wit Tournament.
In the first event, Olympia Haarlem won 3-1 in the Final against reigning Dutch champion Oolders Omaco Sparks Haarlem.
In the Final of the second tournament, the team won 6-0 against Roef!, which today made its debut in the Golden League, but ended up short twice against Terrasvogels.

FysioExpert Olympia Haarlem vs. DSS (game one)
The opener was a pitching-duel between Eva Voortman (Olympia Haarlem) and Dagmar Bloeming (DSS).
Both went the distance and both gave up six basehits.
Lefthander Voortman struckout nine batters, righthander Bloeming struckout six.
The two National Team-pitchers walked none.
And so, the game remained scoreless for five innings, but then Olympia Haarlem scored twice in the sixth.
DSS reached base in six of the seven innings, but was unable to score.
Olympia got only one baserunner in its first three innings, left two runners behind in the fourth, then struck in the sixth.
In the top of the first inning, Morgan Sampson doubled with one out for DSS, but stranded on second base.
With this, at 2:03 PM, Morgan Sampson became the first player to register a basehit in the new Golden League-season.
The next time, DSS got a runner in scoring position was in the fifth.
Lead-off hitter Lorraine Kieft then reached on an error and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by rookie Feline Poot, who made her big league-debut.
Kieft went on to advance to third base on a sac-bunt by Melissa de Greef, but then was left behind.
Dagmar Bloeming, who was the Best Pitcher of last season, retired the first eight batters in a row, including four strikeouts.
With two outs in the third, she gave up a single to Maranca Ham, but closed with her third strikeout in the inning.
In the fourth, Olympia Haarlem saw four consecutive batters reach base.
Brenda Beers led off with a single, but was forced out on a grounder by Mariëlle Vleugels, who then also was forced out on a grounder by Jessie van Aalst.
She then moved to third base on a single by Dinet Oosting, who stole second.
The inning ended when Bloeming struckout Voortman.
Olympia Haarlem decided the game with two outs in the sixth.
With one out, Brenda Beers and Mariëlle Vleugels singled.
Beers was then forced out at third base on a grounder by Jessie van Aalst, but Dinet Oosting followed with a 2-run triple that put the home team ahead.
In the top of the seventh, Eva Voortman gave up a lead-off double to Denice van Dijk, but she was unable to advance on an infield-hit by pinch-hitter Stephanie Ruiter.
With two runners on base, Voortman followed with a strikeout, then Van Dijk was caught stealing.
Another strikeout ended the game.

FysioExpert Olympia Haarlem vs. DSS (game two)
In the second game, Olympia Haarlem decided the game earlier.
The team rallied for four runs in the first inning and added three more in the second at bat, but then scored only one more in the remainder of the game.
In the top of the first inning, it again was Morgan Sampson, who accounted for the first basehit in the game.
This time, she singled with one out, but again, she was left behind.
In the bottom of the first inning, Olympia Haarlem struck with six basehits off of starter Svenja de Lincel.
The first five batters al registered a basehit.
Shareday Christina and Jessie van Aalst led off with singles, then Dinet Oosting followed with a runscoring single.
The bases got loaded thanks to a bunt-single by Brenda Beers and two runs were added when Mariëlle Vleugels doubled.
With runners on second and third base, De Lincel struckout Australian Ellen Roberts in her first big league at bat.
Roberts made her debut and was the winning pitcher for Olympia.
Hereafter, a bunt-single by Eva Voortman brought in the fourth run.
Three runs were added in the second inning.
Shareday Christina again led off with a single and scored on a following triple by Jessie van Aalst.
The latter took off to score on an grounder by Dinet Oosting and indeed scored when a throwing error followed.
With two outs, the lead was increased to 7-0 on a single by Eva Voortman.

Olympia-pitcher Ellen Roberts retired the side in the second inning, but then gave up two runs in the third at bat.
For the righthander, she pitched on a familiar site.
In 2014, she was one of the pitchers of the National Team of Australia that won the bronze medal at the World Championship, which was then organized at the site of Olympia Haarlem.
Later this year, Roberts will travel to the USA to play professionally in the National Pro Fastpitch.
In the third inning, with a 7-0 lead, Olympia's Head Coach Stanley Doney made several defensive changes.
In this at bat, Ellen Roberts encountered some problems.
Feline Poot led off with an infield-hit, her first basehit in the highest league.
With one out, Noa Brand also singled, as did Morgan Sampson, who batted in Poot.
Hereafter, Roberts uncorked two wild pitches, which led to the next run, but the inning ended when a double play followed.
Olympia Haarlem got one run back in the fourth inning when Brenda Beers led off with a homerun.
It also led to a pitching change, as Quincey Catsburg took over from Svenja de Lincel.
DSS scored another run in the fifth after three more defensive changes were made in the Olympia-squad.
Lead-off hitter Feline Poot reached on an error, but was forced out on a grounder by Noa Brand.
She scored with two outs on a double by Morgan Sampson, who was 3-for-4 in this game and collected five basehits in the double-header.
With a .714 average (5-for-7), she is the leading hitter in the Golden League after the first series of the new season.
In the bottom of the fifth, with two outs, Olympia Haarlem a chance to do some more scoring, at it got the bases loaded when Rachel van Veen, Tomoko Goda (first big league-hit) and Stephanie Pearce all singled.
Three runners were left behind when Quincey Catsburg closed with a strikeout.
No more runs were added in the remainder of the game.
