Sparks Haarlem splits another double-header

Oolders Omaco Sparks Haarlem split another double-header this season.
On Saturday (May 20), the reigning champion won 7-1 in the opener against Tex Town Tigers, but then lost the next game with a 3-1 score.
It marks the fifth time this season that Sparks Haarlem has split a double-header, three of them against Tex Town Tigers.
Sparks Haarlem won both games of a double-header only twice, which was against DSS and the Talent Team Holland.
In the opener, Sparks Haarlem collected 11 basehits, including three by Anne Blaauwgeers and Karin Tuk, while Virginie Anneveld batted in three runs.
In the second game, Lindsey Meadows recorded three of her team's six hits and also was the winning pitcher, striking out nine batters.

Tex Town Tigers vs. Oolders Omaco Sparks Haarlem (game one)
In the first game, Sparks Haarlem opened the score with two runs in the first at bat.
Kehli Washington led off with a walk, then Jenny Kinburn singled with one out.
Both scored with two outs when Virginie Anneveld connected for a double down the leftfield-line.
Tex Town Tigers-starter Daniëlle ten Donkelaar retired the side in the second inning, but Sparks Haarlem then took more distance in the third at bat by scoring three runs.
In the third, Kehli Washington led off with a single, stole second base and moved to third when Anne Blaauwgeers reached on a bunt-single.
She then scored on a throwing error when Blaauwgeers stole second base.
On the error, Blaauwgeers advanced to third base and she scored the next run on a following double by Jenny Kinburn.
When next batter Maxime van Dalen singled, a pitching change was made.
Anna-Bè Bartels took over, but gave up a sacrifice fly to Virginie Anneveld that lifted the lead to 5-0, but Sparks Haarlem also left runners behind on second and third base.
Leonella Elizabeth went the distance for Sparks Haarlem.
It was her first 7-inning complete game since July 20, 2013 when she threw all seven innings while pitching for Alcmaria Victrix.
Back then, she also went the distance against Tex Town Tigers in Enschede and won 5-1.
In that game, her current teammates Maxime van Dalen, Maaike Blaauwgeers and Desiree Adriaansz also played for Alcmaria Victrix.
Also playing in the Alkmaar-squad then were Jessie van Aalst, Brenda Beers, Shareday Christina (all Olympia Haarlem), Sophie Bugter (DSS) and Kimberly Jones (Terrasvogels).
Anne Blaauwgeers, who also plays for Sparks Haarlem, then played in Italy, but also played in some games for Alcmaria Victrix back then.
The righthander gave up an one-out double to Lindsey Meadows in the second inning, but she later stranded on third base.
After retiring the side in the third at bat, Elizabeth gave up TTT's lone run in the fourth.
With one out, Nadine Marinus reached on an error, but was forced out on a grounder by Laura Wissink.
Lindsey Meadows followed with another double that brought in Wissink and made it a 5-1 score.
Sparks Haarlem got the run back in the fifth.
Maxime van Dalen then led off with a walk and scored on an one-out double by Karin Tuk.
Sparks Haarlem scored another run in the seventh.
Maxime van Dalen again opened with a walk.
Her pinch-runner Desiree Adriaansz moved to third base on a double by Karin Tuk, then scored on a grounder by Kingsley Avery to make it a 7-1 score.
Tex Town Tigers got some more runners in its final three at bats, but was unable to add more runs.

Tex Town Tigers vs. Oolders Omaco Sparks Haarlem (game two)
In the second game today, it was Tex Town Tigers that struck first in the first inning.
The home team scored two runs off of Ginger de Weert, who went the distance for Sparks Haarlem.
The righthander walked lead-off hitter Olivia Hornstein, who then moved into scoring position via a sacrifice bunt by Annemiek Jansen.
With two outs, she scored the first run on a double by Laura Wissink, who scored herself on a following single by Lindsey Meadows.
The game was a pitching-duel between De Weert and Lindsey Meadows, who went the distance for TTT.
Sparks Haarlem collected five hits, TTT recorded six.
Meadows retired the side in the first and third inning, while Sparks Haarlem left a runner behind on first and second base in the second at bat.
She then gave up an unearned run in the fourth inning.
With one out, Maxime van Dalen singled and with two outs, she stole second base and scored when Karin Tuk reached on an error.
In the fifth and sixth inning, Sparks Haarlem got a chance to do some more scoring, but Lindsey Meadows prevented them from doing so.
In the fifth, Tammie Lijbers led off with a single and Onaisha Franka reached on a bunt-single.
With one out, a force play-grounder followed, then Meadows closed with a strikeout with a runner on third base.
In the sixth, Maxime van Dalen led off with a triple, but stranded on third base.
First, she was unable to advance on a grounder.
Karin Tuk then walked and her pinch-runner Anne Blaauwgeers stole second base, but this time, Meadows closed with two strikeouts.
TTT then added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Annemiek Jansen led off with a single, moved on a passed ball and a grounder, then scored on a sacrifice fly by Laura Wissink to make it a 3-1 score.
Lindsey Meadows retired the side in the top of the seventh and closed the game with her ninth strikeout.
