Terrasvogels and Roef! split; Bonnet throws No-Hitter
Nederlands

SANTPOORT-ZUID (Neth.) - Terrasvogels and Roef! split their double-header on Saturday (May 20). Terrasvogels recorded a 7-0 shutout in the opener, ending the game via the mercy-rule in 4½ inning. In the second game, Terrasvogels erased an early 2-0 deficit, but ended up empty-handed, as Roef! re-took the lead and won 6-4.

In the opener, Danielle Bonnet threw a 5-inning No-Hitter, striking out eight batters. It was the second time this season that Roef! was No-Hit. On April 22, it was Dagmar Bloeming, who held Roef! hitless in what is the lone victory for DSS so far. Coincidentally, both pitchers initials are 'DB' and the total number of letters in their name also is the same (14).

Despite the loss, Terrasvogels stayed in second place and is in company of Oolders Omaco Sparks Haarlem, which also split its double-header today at Tex Town Tigers.

With today's win, Roef! remained in fifth place and took more distance from DSS, which is in sixth position.

Terrasvogels vs. Roef! (game one)
In the opener, Dani Bonnet struckout eight batters and recorded a 5-inning No-Hitter. Only one runner of Roef! was able to get into scoring position, which happened in the top of the first inning. Bonnet then walked lead-off hitter Wies Ligtvoet, who stole second base with one out and moved to third on a grounder, but then was left behind.

In the next four innings, only two more batters reached base off of the righthander. In the second, she walked Eva van Knegsel with two outs and in the third, Wies Ligtvoet reached on an error with one out. Hereafter, Bonnet retired the last eight batters in a row.

Terrasvogels decided the game in the first inning by scoring five runs off of Mikayla Endicott. Four runs were unearned due to two costly errors. The home team got the bases loaded when Katharina Szalay led off with a single, Ella Krommendijk followed with a bunt-single and Suka Van Gurp walked with one out. Two runs were then scored when a fielding error was made on a grounder by Kimberly Jones. Another run was added when a sacrifice bunt by Dervisa Mutic also ended in an error. With runners on second and third base, Jessica Waasdorp delivered a 2-run double to lift the lead to 5-0.

Terrasvogels scored two more runs in the second inning. Gabi Obia led off with a bunt-single, but was forced out on a grounder by Katharina Szalay. The latter then scored when Ella Krommendijk followed with a double. Krommendijk moved to third base on a flyout and scored the next run on a single by Suka Van Gurp to make it a 7-0 score.

With that, Terrasvogels reached a mercy-rule run-difference and hold onto it, as Dani Bonnet kept Roef! off the bases. In the third and fourth inning, Terrasvogels left a total of three runners behind, but the seven runs were enough to end the game after 4½ inning.

Terrasvogels reacted with three runs on four basehits off of starter Marjolein Merkx. Katharina Szalay led off with a bunt-single and advanced on a throwing error, then moved on a grounder and scored on a single by Lizzie Clarijs. Suka Van Gurp followed with another single, but was forced out on a grounder by Kimberly Jones. With runners on first and third base, the bases got loaded when Merkx walked Jessica Waasdorp. Moments later, Terrasvogels took a 3-2 lead when Kelly Koeman delivered a 2-run single. Sanne Korpel led off with an infield-hit and Gabi Obia reached on an error. The two moved to second and third base on a sacrifice bunt by Katharina Szalay, but then were left behind when two grounders followed.

Roef! re-took the lead in the top of the third inning. Lead-off hitter Naftely Pietersz was hit by a pitch and Wies Ligtvoet reached on an infield-hit. The first was then called out for runner's interference on a grounder by Kim Donkers. With runners on first and second base, Isa Los again delivered an important basehit, as her single tied the score at 3-3. Cindy van der Zanden followed with another runscoring single and advanced on an outfield-error. In the end, this was the deciding basehit, as it gave Roef! a 4-3 lead and it hold onto it in the remainder of the game. With runners on second and third base, Los was eliminated on a comeback-grounder by Eva van Knegsel after getting into a rundown between the plate and third base. Whitney closed with a strikeout.

In the bottom of the third inning, Roef! turned an inning-ending double play on a line drive by Jessica Waasdorp and then added another run in the top of the fourth. Ilse van Kerkoerle led off with a walk, stole second with two outs and scored on a triple by Wies Ligtvoet, which also led to a pitching change. Femke Duffhues took over from Micaela Whitney and closed the inning when a flyout followed.

Mikayla Endicott took over the pitching and got the bases loaded with no outs when Ella Krommendijk reached on a bunt-single. A run was then scored on a sacrifice fly by Lizzie Clarijs, but two runners were left behind when a strikeout and pop-up followed.
