Olympia Haarlem adds two victories in Enschede

ENSCHEDE (Neth.) - FysioExpert Olympia Haarlem won 7-2 and 10-1 against Tex Town Tigers on Saturday (April 22) to stay unbeaten.

A week ago, Olympia Haarlem opened the season with four victories. The team won twice against DSS on Saturday, then won both games the next day against the Talent Team Holland.

Tex Town Tigers split its Opening Day double-header against Oolders Omaco Sparks Haarlem.

Tex Town Tigers vs. FysioExpert Olympia Haarlem (game one)
The opener remained scoreless for four innings in what not only was a pitching-duel, but a double Perfect Game! Starters Lindsey Meadows (Tex Town Tigers) and Ellen Roberts (Olympia Haarlem) both retired all 12 batters they faced in these four innings.

The Perfect Game of Meadows ended in the top of the fifth inning. After having retired her 13th consecutive batter, the righthander gave up a single to Dinet Oosting. With two outs, her temporary runner Brenda Beers stole second base and scored the first run on a double by Rachel van Veen.

Olympia Haarlem broke open the game with a 5-run rally in the sixth inning. Tomoko Goda led off as pinch-hitter and walked, then Shareday Christina followed with a single. Both runners scored when next batter Eva Voortman also singled. Hereafter, Anna-Bè Bartels took over the pitching, but walked Mariëlle Vleugels after Voortman had stolen third base. Emma Wójcik then entered the game as pinch-runner for Vleugels and Jessie van Aalst and Dinet Oosting added runscoring singles. With Van Aalst on third base and Oosting on first base, a double-steal followed, resulting in another run. With still no outs, Brenda Beers walked, but hereafter, a force out and double play ended the at bat.

Olympia Haarlem scored its seventh run in the seventh inning in another double-steal situation. With one out, Cheyenne Scheffer took over the pitching and walked Masha Meloni. She then advanced to third base when an error was made on a force play-grounder by pinch-hitter Roos-Marijn Kramer. After reaching base, Kramer was replaced by Eva Voortman, who re-entered as pinch-runner. The latter then stole second base and at the same moment, Meloni scored.

The Perfect Game of Ellen Roberts continued through six innings. In the bottom of the seventh, not only her Perfect Game, but also her No-Hitter and ShutOut ended. After having retired her 19th consecutive batter, the Australian pitcher gave up singles to Lizzy Ebbe and Annemiek Jansen. The bases got loaded when Nadine Marinus reached on an error. With two outs, two unearned runs were scored on a single by Laura Wissink. Hereafter, Roberts ended the game by striking out fellow-Australian Jasmine Peters, who is a teammate in the Australian National Team.

Tex Town Tigers vs. FysioExpert Olympia Haarlem (game two)
In the second game, Olympia Haarlem decided the game with a 6-run rally in the first inning and went on to end it via the mercy-rule after five innings.

Shareday Christina led off the first inning for the visiting team with a single and scored the first run when Brenda Beers followed with a double. A single by Mariëlle Vleugels then brought in Beers and also led to a quick pitching change. Lindsey Meadows took over from starter Daniëlle ten Donkelaar, but walked Jessie van Aalst, followed with a wild pitch, then gave up a 2-run single to Dinet Oosting that made it a 4-0 score. Hereafter, Eva Voortman added a runscoring single and went on to score herself on an error. Meadows then retired the next three batters, but Olympia Haarlem had taken a comfortable 6-0 lead.

Olympia scored its next run in the second inning when Brenda Beers led off with a single and scored on an one-out triple by Jessie van Aalst.

Tex Town Tigers was retired in order in the first inning by Mariëlle Vleugels, then scored its lone run in the bottom of the second. Laura Wissink led off with a double, moved on a grounder and scored on a single by Nadine Marinus.

Olympia Haarlem scored two more runs in the third to make it a 9-1 score. Former TTT-player Amber Krijgsman (who had reached on a fielder's choice) then stole second base, advanced on a passed ball and scored on a double by Emma Wójcik, who who score herself on a sacrifice fly by Shareday Christina.

After being retired in order in the fourth, Olympia scored its tenth run in the game in the fifth when Eva Voortman scored on an error.

Tex Town Tigers got into scoring position in the third and fourth inning, but was unable to narrow the deficit. In the third, Olivia Hornstein and Lizzy Ebbe singled with one out, but were left behind. In the fourth, with one out, Nadine Marinus singled and Aafje van Baal reached on an error, but also stranded.

Trailing 10-1, the home team was retired in order in the bottom of the fifth. With that, the game ended via the 7-run difference mercy-rule.
