Roef! moves into top-4 by winning twice vs. Terrasvogels
Nederlands

SPIJKENISSE (Neth.) - Roef! recorded two victories on Saturday (July 22) against Terrasvogels to move into the top-4 of the Golden League. With the double victory, Roef! is now in fourth place, while Tex Town Tigers dropped to fifth position. Tex Town Tigers had no games scheduled this weekend.

Roef! won 2-0 and 5-2 to extend its winning streak to five games. Before today, Terrasvogels had given up the fewest runs in the league with 64. The team is now in second place in this category, as Oolders Omaco Sparks Haarlem now has given up the fewest runs with 67. Sparks Haarlem had no games scheduled today. With the loss in the second game, Terrasvogels became the final team to be eliminated for first place. This means that league-leader FysioExpert Olympia Haarlem became the winner of the regular season. As such, it qualified for participation in an European Cup-tournament of next year and its also will host the deciding second day of the Play-Offs that follow the regular season.

Today's double-header was played at an unfamiliar site for both teams. It even was an unfamiliar site in the highest Dutch league, as the games were played at the site of Spikes in Spijkenisse.

This weekend, the home site of Roef! in Moergestel was not available, as the Junior League Softball Europe & Africa Regional Tournament was played there since Thursday. While it was known that this event was being organized in Moergestel, a regular season home double-header of Roef! was scheduled nevertheless. A change in the schedule wasn't made and so, this double-header approached with Roef!'s home field not being available. The club decided to move the double-header to Spijkenisse, which is located some 63 miles (100 kilometers) northwest of Moergestel.

It marked the first time that a women's double-header from the highest league was played in Spijkenisse. However, the site is the location for the highest men softball league for several seasons now, as Spikes plays at the highest level. It is also the site of the International Easter Cup Men Softball Tournament, which was held for the second time in April of this year. Marcel Swarttouw, one of the coaches of Roef!, has played and coached with Spikes in the men softball big leaguein the past.
