Olympia Haarlem opens Series with win; DSS wins; HCAW relegates

MOERGESTEL (Neth.) -
FysioExpert Olympia Haarlem won the opener of the best-of-three Holland Series against reigning champion Oolders Omaco Sparks Haarlem with a 5-0 score on Saturday (September 23).
Also today, DSS won 4-2 against De Glaskoning Twins in the Golden League/Silver League Promotion/Relegation Play-Off.
The day began with a 4-1 win in eight innings of Quick Amersfoort against HCAW in the Silver League/First Division Promotion/Relegation Play-Off.
All games were played at the site of Roef! in Moergestel, which hosts the Season's Finals this year.
The Finals Weekend closes on Sunday (September 24).
In the first game, HCAW trailed 1-0, but then came alongside in the fifth ining.
With the score still tied after seven innings, a tie-break followed.
Quick then rallied for three runs on an error, a single by Natalie van der Wijst and a sacrifice fly by Vera de Boer.
With the win, Quick Amersfoort advances to the Silver League/First Division Promotion/Relegation Final against First Division-champion Gophers, which will be played on Sunday.
With the loss, HCAW relegated from the Silver League and will play in the First Division next year.
In the afternoon, DSS outscored Twins.
Leading only 2-1, DSS added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning on an error on a grounder by Noa Brand and a sacrifice fly by Areke Spel.
Winning pitcher Dagmar Bloeming had a strong outing and struckout 13 batters.
With the win, DSS now will face Silver League-champion Hoofddorp Pioniers in the Golden League/Silver League Promotion/Relegation Final on Sunday.
With the loss, Twins will remain playing in the Silver League next season.
In the opener of the Holland Series, winning pitcher Ellen Roberts gave up only three hits in seven innings and struckout five batters.
Dinet Oosting had two hits for Olympia, which opened the score in the second inning.
Brenda Beers then scored on a squeeze by Emma Wójcik, but appeared to be tagged out in a close play just in front of the plate.
A single by Oosting doubled the lead in the third, then two costly errors accounted for two more runs in the fifth.
