Orange Under-19 wins first two games on World Championship

CLEARWATER, Florida (USA) -
The Netherlands Under-19 Softball Team won its first two games at the World Junior Championship on Wednesday (July 26) after having lost its first three.
The 12th edition of the global event is the biggest ever, as 26 countries participate.
At the event in Clearwater, Florida (USA), the Orange-squad opened against Brazil on Monday.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Netherlands led 3-0, but Brazil then suddenly staged a 4-run rally to win 4-3.
In the evening, the Netherlands was shutout 3-0 by Australia.
On Tuesday, the Netherlands lost 8-1 to Japan, which two years ago won the Silver Medal.
During that event in Oklahoma City (USA), the Netherlands didn't participate.
The last time that the Netherlands participated in the Junior World Championship was in 2013 and the team then finished in tenth place in Brampton (Canada).
On Wednesday, the team recorded two victories.
The squad begon the day with a 22-0 shutout-win in three innings against Israel and in the late afternoon, a 4-0 win was added against the Bahamas.

Netherlands vs. Israel
In its first game today, the Netherlands, which is ranked eight on the World Ranking List, faced Israel, which is ranked 37th.
The Orange-squad encountered no problems and recorded a big 22-0 shutout-win in three innings.
The Netherlands collected 16 basehits, including three by Rhowan Stuart, who homered, batted in three runs and scored twice.
It was the second homerun in two days for the player of Terrasvogels.
On Tuesday, she homered against Japan, accounting for the lone Dutch run in that game.
Uchenna Jong Long batted in five runs and Feline Poot batted in four against Israel.
Onaisha Franka and Ismay Poot both scored four runs.
Two runs were scored in the first inning.
Lead-off hitter Onaisha Franka reached on an error, then Ismay Poot was hit by a pitch.
After the two had executed a double-steal, Franka scored on an one-out grounder by Uchenna Jong Long and Poot scored the next run on a single by Rhowan Stuart.

In the second inning, 19 Dutch batters stepped up to the plate, who staged a 15-run rally on 12 basehits.
Seven players scored two runs.
Charlotte Drijvers was the lone player who batted three times in this inning.
Feline Poot, Rhowan Stuart, Nina Oomes and Isa Smit all had two basehits.
The long rally began when Charlotte Drijvers led off with a walk.
She later scored the first run in the inning on a passed ball.
Drijvers had advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Lisa de Vries, but hereafter, 13 consecutive batters reached base safely.
With one out and the bases loaded, Feline Poot delivered a 2-run single, then Uchenna Jong Long followed with a 2-run double and Rhowan Stuart added a 2-run homerun.
Hereafter, more runs were added on runscoring singles by Charlotte Drijvers and Isa Smit.
Later in the inning, Onaisha Franka connected for a 2-run single and Feline Poot added a 2-run triple, giving her four RBI's in this at bat.
The 15th run in the inning was scored on a single by Nina Oomes.
In the third inning, five more Orange-runs were scored.
The first was scored on a force play-grounder by Ismay Poot with the bases loaded.
A pinch-hit single by Rose Mwaro brought in the next run.
Later, Uchenna Jong Loy batted in two runs with a triple and scored herself on a sacrifice fly by pinch-hitter Tammie Lijbers.
Daniëlle ten Donkelaar went the distance for the Orange and struckout four.
She faced only nine batters in three innings and threw a No-Hitter.
With one out in the second inning, the righthander walked a batter, but she was caught stealing and remained the lone baserunner for Israel.

Netherlands vs. the Bahamas
The Netherlands opened the score against the Bahamas with two runs in the top of the first inning.
However, in the following innings, the Orange-squad was unable to take more distance against the country, which shared 38th place on the World Ranking List.
On 38th place, 91 different countries are listed who are not-ranked at the moment.
From the second inning, the Netherlands stranded three runners in scoring position.
In the top of the seventh, two insurance runs were added to make it a 4-0 score.
In the first inning, Onaisha Franka led off with a single and moved to third base on a sacrifice bunt by Ismay Poot.
She then scored on a sacrifice fly by Feline Poot.
With two outs, Rhowan Stuart walked and scored when a hit by next hitter Uchenna Jong Loy was missed in the outfield.
In the second at bat, Yindi Beekveldt singled with one out, then stole second and third base, but was left behind.
In the third, lead-off hitter Ismay Poot was hit by a pitch.
She then successfully advanced on a sacrifice bunt from her sister Feline Poot, but then tried to continue to third base.
However, the leftfielder of the Bahamas came in, received the throw from first base and completed a double play.
With two outs in the third inning, Yindi Beekveldt reached third base on an error.
She was then unable to move on a bunt from Rose Mwaro, who herself ended up on second base.
However, a strikeout then ended the inning.
In the fifth and sixth inning, a runner was forced out on second base.
In the top of the seventh, the Netherlands finally was able to do some more scoring and added two much-needed insurance runs.
The Bahamas had threatened to score in the earlier innings, but left five runners in scoring position.
With two outs in the seventh and Feline Poot (fielder's choice) on first base, Rhowan Stuart (who reached base four times) singled.
Poot then scored when next batter Uchenna Jong Loy reached on an error.
Hereafter, pinch-hiter Charlotte Drijvers connected for a runscoring double to bring in another important run and lift the lead to 4-0.
Nina Hendriks started as pitcher for the Netherlands.
With two outs and a runner on first base in the first inning, she walked a batter, but a pop-fly ended the at bat.
In the second inning, with one out and a runner on first base, the Orange-defense turned a double play after short stop Feline Poot had caught a line drive.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Hendriks walked lead-off hitter Shane Albury, then gave up a single to Dachye Stubbs.
The two moved on a sacrifice bunt and a flyout accounted for the second out.
With runners on second and third base and two outs, Hendriks got the count on next hitter Aliyah Ferguson to 3-1.
Hereafter, Netherlands Head Coach Saskia Kosterink came out to make a pitching change, as she brought in Lisa Hop.
She completed the at bat of Ferguson, who walked, which was credited to Hendriks.
A foul pop-fly near the backstop was then caught by 1B Rose Mwaro to end the inning.
In the sixth, the Bahamas again got in scoring position.
With one out and a runner on first base, an error on a fly by Altavia Hall then led to runners on second and third base.
Hereafter, Lisa Hop closed the inning by striking out the next two batters.
In the seventh, now leading 4-0, Hop gave up a 2-out single, but a line drive then ended the game.
