Dagmar Bloeming No-Hits Talents; Strikes Out 16!
Nederlands

HAARLEM (Neth.) - DSS won its double-header against the Talent Team Holland on Sunday (May 28) with scores of 3-0 and 10-1. With this, DSS added two much-needed victories, while the Talent Team remained winless.

In the first game, DSS-pitcher Dagmar Bloeming dominated, threw a No-Hitter and struckout 16 batters! On the other hand, the Talent-pitching also did very well and so, the game remained scoreless for six innings. DSS then rallied in the top of the seventh to win 3-0.

It marked the first time this season that the Talent Team didn't suffer a mercy-loss. However, in the second game of the double-header, DSS scored earlier and needed five innings to win 10-1.

Complete Schedule

Talent Team Holland vs. DSS (game one)
The first match-up of today's double-header was very attractive. Not only because of the dominating pitching by Dagmar Bloeming, but also because the game remained scorless for six innings. While the Talent Team reached base only once, DSS simply was unable to score and stranded six runners in the first six innings, including the bases loaded in the fourth. The Talent Team-defense made the outs and so, even extra innings or a possible surprise victory could be in the making.

That the Talent Team would score a run in this game should have been a huge surprise, as Dagmar Bloeming dominated from the beginning. The veteran righthander struckout the first two batters in the first inning, then hit next batter Tammie Lijbers with a pitch. She had to leave the game and was replaced by pinch-runner Nina Oomes, but Bloeming closed with another struckout.

The hit batter resulted in the lone runner for the Talent Team, meaning Bloeming barely missed a Perfect Game. From this first inning on, she retired the next 19 batters in a row, 14 of them them with a strikeout, giving her a total of 16 in the game. She struckout the side in the third and fourth inning. From the second inning on, Bloeming struckout eight consesutive batters!

The sixteen strikeouts are a career-high for Bloeming and are the most this season by any pitcher. Bloeming's previous high was twelve, which she accomplised three times. She struckout 12 on April 19 in 2014, then equaled that on May 14 last year and did it again on April 22 of this season when she also threw a 7-inning No-Hitter.

On June 18, 2011, Amanda Lindsey struckout 17 batters while pitching for Olympia Haarlem against Twins. Since then, three pitchers reached the 16-strikeout-mark. In 2014, Kirsten Scheele (Sparks Haarlem) and Ashley Lanz (Alcmaria Victrix) struckout sixteen batters. Last year, it was Eva Voortman (Olympia Haarlem), who struckout sixteen.

Daniëlle ten Donkelaar started for the Talent Team and did well. She gave up an one-out single to Lisa Waasdorp in the first inning, but she stranded on second base. In the second, the righthander gave up a lead-off single to Feline Poot, who was forced out. Ten Donkelaar then retired the side in the third.

In the fourth inning, DSS got the bases loaded. With one out, Sophie Bugter reached on a bunt-single and with two outs, Denice van Dijk reached on an error and later moved on a passed ball. With runners on second and third base, Lorraine Kieft walked to load the bases. Ten Donkelaar then had a strong finish and closed the at bat with a strikeout.

In the fifth inning, Kim Horsten took over the Talent-pitching with one out. She walked Lisa Waasdorp with two outs, but she again was left behind. In the sixth, it was Horsten who retired the side.

And so, there was suspense enough in this game, which was then decided in the top of the seventh inning. Lorraine Kieft led off with a single and moved on a sacrifice bunt by Annemiek de Rover, then scored the first run on a single by pinch-hitter Dominique Burger. Her pinch-runner Melissa de Greef (who re-entered) then advanced when Noa Brand reached on an error. With two outs, two runs were added when Morgan Sampson delivered a double to give DSS a 3-0 lead.

Now leading 3-0, Dagmar Bloeming struckout the first two batters in the bottom of the seventh. A grounder ended the game to complete her No-Hitter.

For the righthander, this was her second 7-inning No-Hitter of the season. On April 22, she held Roef! hitless and struckout 12 batters. In both games, veteran umpire Albert Tolen was behind the plate. In April, she threw her first 7-inning No-Hitter since April 21, 2012. Since then, she threw five more No-Hitters and was part of two 'combined' No-Hitters, but that were all games that ended via the mercy-rule.

Talent Team Holland vs. DSS (game two)
In the second game, DSS settled things much quicker and took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning en route to a mercy-rule victory.

In the top of the first inning, Lisa Waasdorp reached base for DSS on an error with one out, then Morgan Sampson singled off of starter Lisa Hop. The score was then opened when Sophie Bugter followed with a double and Areke Spel added a runscoring single. On the throw back to the infield on Spel's hit, Bugter also was able to score to give DSS an early lead.

DSS added its next run in the second inning. Denice van Dijk led off with a single and stole second base with one out. She then scored on a single by Noa Brand.

Quincey Catsburg had another fine outing for DSS and went the distance. After retiring the side in the bottom of the first inning, the righthander gave up the lone Talent-run in the second.

Trailing 4-0, the Talent Team got some scoring opportunities in the second, but scored only once. Uchenna Jong Loy led off with a single, then stole second and third base. Rhowan Stuart then walked and moved to second base on fielder's indifference. Daniëlle ten Donkelaar followed with a runscoring single to make it a 4-1 score. The Talent Team again got runners on second and third base after a successful sacrifice bunt by Nina Oomes, but both runners were eliminated moments later. Another bunt followed, this time by Lisa de Vries, but on this squeeze, Stuart was eliminated at the plate. Ten Donkelaar advanced to third base and so, the Talent Team had runners at the corners. With two outs, next batter Keedy Florentina then grounded to first base. That didn't end in an out at first base, as 1B Noa Brand threw the ball to catcher Sophie Bugter, who eliminated Ten Donkelaar.

In the top of the third, Morgan Sampson led off for DSS with a single and stole second base with two outs, but was left behind. In the bottom of the third, Charlotte Drijvers tripled with two outs for the Talent Team, but also stranded.

DSS then decided the game with a 6-run rally in the fourth on seven basehits. With one out, Denice van Dijk singled, stole second base and scored on a single by Stephanie Ruiter. Noa Brand followed with a double which brought Ruiter to third base, who then scored on a following throw. DSS got runners on second and third base when Lisa Waasdorp singled. Hereafter, Morgan Sampson delivered an RBI-double and Sophie Bugter added a runscoring single, which led to a pitching change. Roos-Marijn Kramer took over, but she gave up a 2-out, 2-run triple to Feline Poot that lifted the lead to 10-1 in favor of DSS.

After leaving a runner behind on second base in the fourth, the Talent Team got one final chance to score a run in the fifth. With two outs, Rose Mwaro and Ismay Poot both walked and moved on a wild pitch. With runners on second and third base, Quincey Catsburg then ended the game with a strikeout.
