Orange Under-19 advances after win vs. Great Britain on World Championship

CLEARWATER, Florida (USA) -
The Netherlands Under-19 Softball Team advanced to the next game in the Second Round of the World Junior Championship in Clearwater (Florida, USA) by winning 2-0 against Great Britain on Friday-afternoon (July 28).
On Thursday, the Netherlands closed the Preliminary Round with a 5-2 win against Peru to finish in fourth place in Pool B.
With that, the Orange-squad will participate in the Second Round for 9th through 16th place.
With the win against the British squad, the Netherlands now will play its next game on Saturday against the Dominican Republic, which on Friday-evening lost 5-3 to the Philippines.
When the Dutch squad had lost against the British, it would have been eliminated.
Earlier today, Italy won 7-3 against New Zealand to also advance to the next game.
By losing their game, Great Britain and New Zealand were eliminated and will share 15th place in the final standings.
With the win, the Netherlands now will continue playing for 9th through 14 place.
On Saturday-afternoon, the team will play in another elimination-game, as the tournament ends for the losing team.
The winner of the game will advance to the next game, which will be played on Saturday-evening.
The opponent of that game will be the winner of the match-up between Italy and Brazil, who will play against each other before the Netherlands-game.
Brazil moved to this game after a 10-3 loss against Mexico in the late afternoon on Friday.
The Netherlands opened the score against the British squad in the fourth inning.
Yindi Beekveldt then tripled and scored on a single by Feline Poot.
The second run was added in the seventh inning when Ismay Poot was hit by a pitch and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Tammie Lijbers.
Lisa Hop went the distance and threw a 3-hitter.
The Orange-squad played a good game and showed some very nice defensive plays.
