HAARLEM (Neth.) - Roef! added two more victories on Saturday (July 29), winning the double-header at DSS with minimal scores, 1-0 and 3-2. The second game was decided in the eighth inning.

With the two victories, Roef! extended its winning streak to seven games. With 28 points, Roef! has the same total as Terrasvogels, which is in third place, but the team has played three more games and so, it's listed in fourth position.

The DSS vs. Roef! double-header was the lone one scheduled for today.

(July 29)

Complete Schedule

DSS vs. Roef! (game one)
After stranding a runner on second base in the top of the first inning, Roef! opened the score in the second at bat. Isa Los led off with a single, reached third base on a sacrifice bunt by Eva van Knegsel and scored on a single by Naftely Pietersz. This was to be the lone run in the game.

In the next innings, Roef! got into scoring position only one more time off of Quincey Catsburg, who went the distance for DSS. The righthander, who retired the side in the third and fourth inning, gave up an one-out, ground-rule double to Manoa Weijgertse in the fifth. She moved to third base on a pinch-hit single by Manon van Alebeek, but the two runners were left behind.

DSS got three scoring opportunities off of American righthander Mikayla Endicott. After being retired in order in the first inning, the team got its first two batters on base in the second at bat, while trailing 1-0. Morgan Sampson and Denice van Dijk led off with singles, but hereafter, Endicott struckout the next three batters!

DSS was retired in order again in the third, then got its next runner in scoring position in the fourth. With one out, Morgan Sampson singled again and advanced on a passed ball, but stranded again.

DSS got its biggest scoring opportunity in the bottom of the fifth when it got the bases loaded with no outs! Annemiek de Rover led off with a single, then Stephanie Ruiter followed with a bunt-single. The bases got loaded when a sacrifice bunt from Dominique Burger didn't result in an out. And so, DSS got a chance to so some scoring and turn the game its way. However, a line drive from next batter Noa Brand was caught by short stop Wies Ligtvoet, who completed a double play at third base. A foul-fly ended the at bat.

In the remaining two at bats, a DSS-batter walked with two outs, but both times, they were left behind on first base.

DSS vs. Roef! (game two)
The second game needed an extra inning, took two hours and 23 minutes and with that, eveyone stepped off the field close to 7 PM.

DSS opened the score in the bottom of the second inning off of starter Marjolein Merkx, who had retired the side in the first at bat. In the second, she gave up a lead-off single to Morgan Sampson, but she was forced out on a grounder by Denice van Dijk. Hereafter, Lisa Waasdorp drilled the ball into left-centerfield for a triple that gave DSS an 1-0 lead. Waasdorp stranded on third base.

Dagmar Bloeming had a strong outing for DSS, but ended up empty-handed. The veteran righthander struckout 13 batters, walked only one and gave up seven basehits. However, she also gave up three runs, but only one of them was earned.

Bloeming encountered no problems in the first three innings, then gave up the tying run in the fourth. Cindy van der Zanden led off with a single, moved on a sacrifice bunt by Manoa Weijgertse, stole third base, then scored when Kim Donkers reached on an error. Her pinch-runner Maureen van Poorten advanced when no out was recorded on a fielder's choice-grounder by Isa Los. The two later stranded on second and third base.

DSS left two runners behind in its fourth at bat, then got a chance to add more runs in the fifth. With one out, Melissa de Greef singled and Noa Brand walked. Areke Spel followed with a single, De Greef attempted to score, but was eliminated at the plate. With runners on second and third base, a force play was created by walking Sophie Bugter intentionally. The force play indeed came, ending the at bat.

Roef! took a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning. Cindy van der Zanden again led off with a single and stole second base. With one out, she scored when an error followed on an infield-hit by Kim Donkers. A wild pitch and walk followed, but Bloeming closed with two strikeouts.

In the bottom of the sixth, Lisa Waasdorp singled for DSS with one out, which led to a pitching change. With a 2-1 lead, it was not opted to bring in American Mikayla Endicott, but Gini Ketelaars, who did a fine job closing the inning. She first saw Waasdorp steal second base, but a flyout and strikeout followed.

In the bottom of the seventh, Roef! did insert Endicott, but she ran into problems. She walked Melisssa de Greef and Noa Brand, who advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Areke Spel. Endicott followed with a strikeout, but then got the bases loaded when she also walked Morgan Sampson. Hereafter, Endicott walked her fourth batter in the inning, Denice van Dijk, which brought in the tying run. With the bases still loaded, the inning ended when Lisa Waasdorp flied out.

Roef! re-took the lead in the top of the eighth inning and it again was Cindy van der Zanden, who scored. This time, she was the tie-break runner, and scored on a lead-off single by Manoa Weijgertse. A sacrifice bunt by Kim Donkers led to runners on second and third base. After Dagmar Bloeming had struckout her 13th batter, the DSS-defense avoided giving up another run, as a double play followed. Eva van Knegsel flied out to rightfielder Denice van Dijk, who then eliminated Weijgertse at the plate, who tried to score.

DSS was unable to come back in its eighth at bat and so, the team suffered two one-run difference losses today.
