    Carolien Stadhouders appointed Director of Umpires ESF; Hornstra & Machalet Umpire-in-Chief

Former veteran umpire Carolien Stadhouders has been appointed as Director of Umpires for the European Softball Federation (ESF), while Hans Hornstra and Raoul Machalet were named Umpire-in-Chief.
Machalet will be responsible for Development, while Hornstra will handle Assignments.
The ESF officially announced the appointments on Friday (March 2).
Last month, the ESF merged with the European Baseball Confederation (CEB) to become WBSC Europe.

Carolien Stadhouders from the Netherlands is one of the most experienced international softball-umpires in Europe.
She retired as an active umpire after completion of last season.
In her long career, she officiated at numerous international events, including the Women's World Championship in 2002 and 2010.
In the 2010 Championship in Venezuela, she was the Home Plate Umpire in the Final.
Besides officiating at several European Cup-tournaments, she also was an umpire at three Olympic Qualifying Tournaments and the Men's World Championship in 2000.
Since 2011, she also acted as (Assistant)Umpire-in-Chief at several tournaments, includig the 2013 Women's European Championshiop.
In October 2016, she already was appointed as Director of Umpires Co-Chair and then became responsible for development and education of the umpires.
Recently, the leadership of the European umpires was restructured.
In the announcement, it was mentioned that Carolien Stadhouders will be in charge of the Umpires-in-Chief (UiC) for Development and Assignments.
She also will be responsible for managing exchange programs with other regional confederations and will be the liaison with the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC).
At the end of every year, as Director of Umpires, she will prepare evaluations for all the ESF-umpires.

Besides the naming of a Director of Umpires, two new specialized positions were established, the Umpire-in-Chief for Assigments and the Umpire-in-Chief for Development.
Hans Hornstra from the Netherlands has been appointed UiC Assignments.
In this role, he will be responsible for assignments of umpires in both fastpitch and slowpitch.
Besides that, Hornstra will communicate with National Federations regarding ESF licensed umpires.
In his long umpiring career, Hornstra officiated at several European Cup-tournaments.
Last year, he was the Umpire-in-Chief at the Women's European Championship in Italy.
Raoul Machalet from Germany will be the UiC Development.
As such, he will be in charge of umpire licensing and education and will cooperate with Carolien Stadhouders on yearly evaluations preparation.
Under his leadership, Basic and Advanced umpiring clinics will be organized.
Machalet will also be the liaison with National Federations in umpire-training matters.
In his career, Machalet officiated in two Women's World Championships in 2014 and 2016.
Amongst his international tournaments are also the Men's World Championship and Women's European Championship, both in 2013.
