(Story by Marco Stoovelaar; Photos by Rein Merkx) Roef! plays double-header against Hoofddorp Pioniers Nederlands HOOFDDORP (Neth.) - Golden League-team Roef! played its first outdoor exhibition games of the season on Saturday (March 24). The team then played a double-header against Silver League-squad Hoofddorp Pioniers. In the first game, Roef! recorded a 6-0 shutout, but the second game ended in a 4-4 tie. A weekend earlier, Roef! hosted its annual Pre-Season Tournament, which was played indoors. Roef! then reached the Final, but lost to Terrasvogels. In the opener on Saturday, three pitchers of Roef! gave up only one basehit in the 5-inning game. Roef! collected seven basehits. ...Isa Los... ...homerun... (© Photo: Rein Merkx) Roef! opened the score with three runs in the top of the first inning. Kim Donkers was hit by a pitch and Cindy van der Zanden led off with a walk, then the bases got loaded when Isa Los followed with a single. Hereafter, Charlotte Drijvers delivered a 2-run single. With one out, Los moved to third base when Eva van Knegsel flied out. Moments later, Drijvers stole second base and at the same time, Los scored the third run in the inning. Roef! added another run in the third at bat when Isa Los led off with a homerun. The team appeared to score again in the fourth inning. With two outs, Roef! got the bases loaded when Wies Ligtvoet, Kim Donkers and Cindy van der Zanden all singled. However, all three were left behind when a flyout ended the at bat. But in the fifth inning, Roef! increased the lead to 6-0. Charlotte Drijvers led off with a triple and Céline Janssens walked. Drijvers then scored on a sacrifice fly by Eva van Knegsel. Hereafter, Janssens stole second, advanced on an error and scored when a hit into the outfield by Naftely Pietersz ended in an error. Pioniers reached base for the first time in the second inning. Riangela Flanegin then led off with a single, but later stranded on second base. The basehit was the only one for Pioniers in this game. The home-team then got the bases loaded with two outs in the third inning off of new pitcher Bo Horsten. With two outs and a runner on first base, Amy Felix walked and Quilen Dirksz was hit by a pitch, but a flyout followed. The Roef!-defense turned a double play in the fourth inning and new pitcher Judith van den Berg retired the side in the fifth at bat to end the game, including two strikeouts.

(© Photo: Rein Merkx) In the top of the first inning, Roef! took an 1-0 lead. Kim Donkers led off with a single, stole scond base, advanced on a flyout, then scored on a single by Isa Los. The latter stole second base moments later, but was left behind. The lead was shortlived, as Pioniers answered with three in its first at bat off of starter Judith van den Berg. With two runners on base and one out, Riangela Flanegin connected well and hit a 3-run homerun! Pioniers added another run in the second inning. Susannah Groen then led off with a triple. With one out, Iris Dweelaard walked, then the run was scored on a sacrifice fly to make it a 4-1 score. In the remainder of the 5-inning game, Pioniers would reach base only one more time. That happened int he third, but was followed by a nice double play. With one out, off of new pitcher Bo Horsten, Riangela Flanegin walked. Hereafter, Shari van Heyningen flied out to centerfielder Isa Los, who was able to double up Flanegin at first base to end the inning. Marjolein Merkx closed the game for Roef! and retired the side in the fourth and fifth inning. Roef! cut the deficit in half in the third inning. Wies Ligtvoet then led off with a double, moved on a single by Kim Donkers and scored on a single by Cindy van der Zanden. In the top of the fifth, Roef! came alongside. Wies Ligtvoet again led off and this time, she reached on an error. She then scored when Kim Donkers followed with a triple. With one out, Donkers (who was 3-for-3) scored the tying run on a sacrifice fly by Isa Los. Hereafter, Charlotte Drijvers doubled, but she was left behind on second base.
