Game 1
DSS trailed twice, but came alongside both times.
In the eighth inning, the Haarlem-team took the lead itself, but then opponent Tex Town Tigers came alongside and scored the winning run in the ninth on a wild pitch.
Tex Town Tigers opened the score in the bottom of the first inning off of María Gómez Mendoza, who went the distance for DSS.
With one out, the Venezuelan righthander gave up a triple to Merel Oosterveld, who then scored in a sacrifice fly by Laura Wissink.
The home-team doubled its lead in the second inning.
With one out, Myrthe Smid doubled, but was unable to advance on an infield-hit by Eloïse Tribolet.
With two outs, Merel Oosterveld also reached on an infield-hit, which enabled Smid to score and Tribolet to move into third base.
On the throw to the plate, Oosterveld moved to second base.
With first base open, Laura Wissink was walked intentionally.
The three runners were left behind, as Gómez closed with a strikeout.
Trailing 2-0, DSS got into scoring position for the first time in the top of the fourth and then also came alongside.
Denice van Dijk led off with a double off of Zoe Gillis and scored on an one-out double by María Gómez Mendoza.
She then scored the tying run on a single by Kim Scholtes, who made her comeback in the team.
She played in her first big league-game since 2014 when she was the leading hitter of DSS with a .321 batting average (27-for-84).
Back then, she also led the team in basehits (27) and runs batted in (20), but she retired after the season.
Scholtes moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Esmee Ames, but then was left behind.
Scholtes is a fill-in player, as the team currently has to do without Morgan Sampson, who is sidelined with an arm-injury.
Last season, she was the second best hitter of the team with a .293 average after having been the team's best hitter in 2017 with a .405 average.
Tex Town Tigers immediately re-took the lead in the bottom of the fourth.
With one out, Eloïse Tribolet reached on an infield-hit and stole second base.
She then beat the throw to third base on a comeback/fielder's choice-grounder by Marije Oosting-ten Thij.
Shortly hereafter, Oosting was caught stealing, but in the meantime, Tribolet scored.
With a 3-2 lead, Shaneequa Kock took over the TTT-pitching in the top of the fifth.
She got two baserunners with two outs, but they were left behind.
In the bottom of the fifth, it was TTT that stranded a runner in scoring position.
After both teams were retired in order in the sixth inning, DSS tied the score for the second time in the top of the seventh.
With two outs, Anna-Bè Bartels walked.
Her pinch-runner Sanne Wessel then scored the tying run on a following double by Sophie Bugter.
Hereafter, Zoe Gillis returned as pitcher and closed with a strikeout.
The home-team got a chance to decide the game in the bottom of the seventh inning, but it left three runners behind.
Merel Oosterveld (who was 4-for-5) led off with a triple, but the winning run never came.
With Oosterveld on third base, next batters Laura Wissink and Lisa Marie Kovačevič-Köllner both were walked intentionally to create a force play.
That worked, as indeed two runners were forced out at the plate on following grounders.
With the bases stil loaded, another force at second base ended the inning.
And so, the game went into extra innings.
In the top of the eighth, it was DSS that took the lead.
Tie-break runner Denice van Dijk then scored on a 2-out single by Kim Scholtes, but the team also left two runners behind.
This time, it was TTT that came alongside.
Tie-break runner Shaneequa Kock also scored with two outs and she did it when Marije Oosting-ten Thij reached on an error.
In the ninth, Elise Ooms, the tie-break runner on DSS, moved to third base on an error, but then next three batters were retired.
Tex Town Tigers scored the winning run moments later.
Tie-break runner Merel Oosterveld moved to third base on an infield-hit by Laura Wissink.
Next, Lisa Marie Kovačevič-Köllner was walked intentionally to load the bases.
However, the game then ended when Oosterveld scored on a walk-off wild pitch.
