Schedule, Standings & Scores

Game 1

Olympia Haarlem scored three runs in the top of the first inning off of starter Romy van der Ham. However, the team led only 3-2 moments later. Thereafter, Twins was held both scoreless and hitless in the remainder of the game.

In the top of the first inning, Eva Voortman led off for Olympia with a walk and moved on a grounder. She then scored when Jessie van Aalst hit an inside-the-park-homerun down the rightfield-line. Hereafter, Mariëlle Vleugels walked and scored when next batter Rosanne de Vries reached on an error.

Trailing 3-0, Twins Oosterhout scored twice in its first at bat off of starter Rosanne de Vries. The lefthander walked lead-off hitter Sara Riou, then got the bases loaded when Tess Remmers singled and Minke Blok was hit by a pitch. After an infield-fly accounted for the first out, a wild pitch enabled Riou to score. A grounder by Machteld Rector led to the next run, but a strikeout then closed the at bat.

For Twins, the scoring stopped here. The team also was held hitless and was even unable to get a baserunner from the second inning on.

Olympia Haarlem added two runs in the second inning. With one out, Brenda Beers singled and stole second base. Eva Voortman followed with a bunt-single and also stole second base. The two then scored on a double by Dinet Oosting.

In the third inning, Olympia scored another run, but also left three runners behind. With one out, Stephanie Pearce singled and Chelsea Robison doubled. The bases got loaded when Shareday Christina walked. The run was then scored on a single by Brenda Beers. Pearce scored, but Robison was eliminated at the plate when she also tried to score. The bases got loaded again when Eva Voortman walked, but the three runners stranded when a flyout ended the at bat.

Olympia again left three runners behind in the fifth inning. But the team scored its next run in the sixth off of Sterre den Duijn, who had taken over the pitching in the previous inning. She gave up a lead-off bunt-single to Jessie van Aalst, who continued to second base on a throwing error. Van Aalst moved on a grounder by Amber Krijgsman and scored on a double by Rosanne de Vries. This time, Olympia left two runners behind. Overall, the team stranded eleven runners.

Ilona Andringa pitched the second inning for Olympia Haarlem. The righthander made her first appearance of the season after being injured. Andringa retired the side in her lone inning in the circle.

Eva Voortman pitched the final five innings. She retired all 15 batters she faced, 12 of them with a strikeout. The lefthander struckout the first eight batters she faced.

The twelve strikeouts are amongst the highest total in one game for Eva Voortman. Her career-high is 16, which she accomplished twice, the first time in 2016, the second time last year.

With one out in the first inning, Dinet Oosting tripled and was able to score when an error followed. Jessie van Aalst then singled, stole second base, advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a 2-out single by Stephanie Pearce.

After stranding a runner on second base in the second inning, the Haarlem-team scored its next run in the third at bat. Dinet Oosting led off with a double, moved on a grounder and scored on a sacrifice fly by Mariëlle Vleugels.

Two more runs were added in the top of the fourth. This time, Brenda Beers led off with a bunt-single and scored on a following double by Emma Wójcik. The Polish player then moved to third base on a passed ball and with one out, she scored on a grounder by Amber Krijgsman.

With a 5-0 lead, Olympia Haarlem reached the mercy-rule 7-run difference with two outs in the top of the sixth. Brenda Beers walked and stole second base. With two outs, she scored on a triple by Amber Krijgsman, who scored herself on an outfield-error.

Twins collected three basehits off of two pitchers. Trailing 2-0, the team got into scoring position in its first at bat. Sara Riou led off with an infield-hit and stole second base, but starter Ilona Andringa then retired the next three batters, two of them with a strikeout.

Mariëlle Vleugels took over the pitching in the second inning. She saw Twins get into scoring position two more times.

In the fourth, with one out, Minke Blok was hit by a pitch and Sterre den Duijn walked. But a strikeout-caught-stealing-double-play ended the at bat.

In the sixth, Sara Riou led off with an infield-hit and Minke Blok walked with one out. The two moved on a grounder, but stranded, as Vleugels closed the inning and the game with a strikeout.
