Second exhibition game Netherlands Softball Teams halted by rain

AMERSFOORT (Neth.) - The Netherlands National Softball Teams for women and men were scheduled to play the second game of their of their 5-game exhibition series on Wednesday-evening (April 24) at the site of Quick Amersfoort in Amersfoort.

The game went underway, but was halted by rain in the top of the fourth inning. At that moment, the men-team led 4-0.

Last Wednesday (april 17), the men-squad won the attractive opening game with a 7-5 score.

On Tuesday, April 30, the two teams will face each other at the site of Hoofddorp Pioniers in Hoofddorp. Hereafter, the next game will be played on Wednesday, May 8 at the site of De Zuidvogels in Huizen. The series ends on Wednesday, May 29 at the site of UVV in Vleuten/Utrecht.

The Orange Men-team scored its four runs in the bottom of the first inning off of starting pitcher Marjolein Merkx. Jeff Delfina led off with a walk and Jorin van Amstel singled. Both scored when Enrique Javier followed with a double. Hereafter, Danny Rombley hit a homerun to make it a 4-0 score. Next batter Emeron Lourens added a double, but Marjolein Merkx recovered and struckout the next two batters. With two outs, the inning ended, as Merkx had reached her pitch-count.

Eva Voortman and Rebecca Soumeru pitched the next two innings and both retired the side. Voortman struckout three batters, Soumeru two.

With one out in the top of the first inning, Brenda Beers became the first runner for the Women-team when she reached on an error, but she stranded on second base.

Wesley Blonk, who took over the pitching from starter Jeroen Mulder, then retired the side in the second and third inning.

Enio Kwas became the new pitcher in the fourth. He walked Dinet Oosting and Mariëlle Vleugels. They moved to second and third base on a passed ball. Next batter Karin Tuk flied out, but hereafter, the game was interrupted by rain. Ten minutes later, it was decided to cancel the game.

Brenda Beers, Maxime van Dalen, Charlotte Drijvers, Isa Los, Marjolein Merkx, Dinet Oosting, Rebecca Soumeru, Karin Tuk, Chantal Versluis, Mariëlle Vleugels, Eva Voortman.

The following players played for the Netherlands Men Team:
Jorin van Amstel, Niels van Amstel, Wesley Blonk, Jeff Delfina, Clay Francisca, Lars Ham, Dyron Juaquin, Enrique Javier, Enio Kwas, Emeron Lourens, Jeroen Mulder, Danny Rombley, Matthew Scholten.
