Wins for Tex Town Tigers, Joudrs on Day 1 Mastenbroek Tournament
ENSCHEDE (Neth.) -
Organizing club Tex Town Tigers opened the 36th edition of the annual international J.C.J. Mastenbroek Tournament at its site in Enschede with a 6-0 shutout-win against Carrousel from Russia.
Later in the evening, Joudrs Praha won only 1-0 against Barracudas Zürich (Switzerland) in what was a pitching-duel.
Monica Perry threw a No-Hitter, but ended up empty-handed.
In the late afternoon, the baseball-tournament went underway with Tex Town Tigers winning 5-3 against Barracudas Zürich from Switzerland.
The game-schedule of the softball-tournament had to be adjusted a few days ago after DSS and Sparks Haarlem both withdraw their team from the event due to some injuries.
Initially, ten teams were to participate in the softball-tournament, including four from abroad.
But in the new situation, the field of participants has eight teams.
Golden League-teams Tex Town Tigers (host), FysioExpert Olympia (Dutch champion and last years winner), Roef! and Twins Oosterhout will be joined by Barracudas Zürich (Switzerland), Carrousel (Russia), Joudrs Praha (Czech Republic) and the National Team of Germany.
In the long history of the tournament, it was not possible to play only once.
In 2013, the event was cancelled due to snow.
Through the years, the complex of Tex Town Tigers has been the site of several international softball-events.
In 2000, the European Championship Juniors for both women and men was organized in Enschede.
In 2007, Tex Town Tigers was the host of the Women's World Championship Juniors, the only time this event was held in Europe.
And in 2012, the tournament for the European Cup was held at Sportpark 'De Kroedkotten'.
Recently, the organization of next years European Under-15 Softball Championship was awarded to Enschede.
