Friday, August 5: Great Britain vs. Netherlands Final Phase

Game Notes: Hello and welcome to the live coverage of the game between the Netherlands and Great Britain, which started at 10:00 AM. This is the ninth game in history between the two countries. The Dutch team has won seven games, the British won one. This will be the last game in the final phase for both teams and it will be decisive on which teams will join Italy and Greece to the Play-Offs. Yesterday, the Dutch team lost twice. In the afternoon, it was beaten 3-2 by Italy, in the evening, the Czech won 4-3 in eight innings. The British team yesterday-afternoon started with a 5-0 loss vs. Greece, later in the day followed by a 2-1 win vs. Russia. For the Dutch team to qualify for the Play-Offs, it has to win this morning. However, the final score of the game might become important in case of a 3-way tie with the British team and the Czech. The four best teams of the final phase will qualify for the Play-Offs, which will open tonight. The teams that will then finish in first, second and third place tomorrow not only will win gold, silver and bronze on this European Championships, but also will qualify for the World Championships 2006 in Beijing (China). Oranje won zevenmaal, de Britten wonnen één wedstrijd. Dit is de laatste wedstrijd in de finaleronde voor beide ploegen en is beslissend voor wie er samen met Italië en Griekenland overgaan naar de Play-Offs. Gisteren verloor Oranje tweemaal. 's Middags verloor men met 3-2 van Italië en 's avonds wonnen de Tsjechen met 4-3 in acht innings. De Britse ploeg startte gistermiddag met een 5-0 nederlaag vs. Griekenland, later in de dag gevolgd door een 2-1 zege vs. Rusland. De Nederlandse ploeg moet vanmorgen winnen wil het zich kwalificeren voor de Play-Offs. Echter, de uitslag kan belangrijk worden in het geval er een gelijke stand komt samen met de Britse ploeg en de Tsjechen. De vier beste ploegen van de finaleronde kwalificeren zich voor de Play-Offs, die vanavond van start gaan. De ploegen die morgen op de eerste, tweede en derde plaats eindigen winnen niet alleen goud, zilver en brons op dit Europees Kampioenschap, maar zullen zich ook kwalificeren voor het Wereldkampioenschap 2006 in Beijing (China).
