Thursday, August 4: Italy vs. Netherlands Final Phase

Game Notes: Hello and welcome to the live coverage of the game between the Netherlands and Italy, which started at 12:30 PM. This is the 89th game in history between the two countries. The Dutch team has won 54 games, Italy has won 34. This is the first game for both teams in the final phase, which starts today. In the preliminary round, the Dutch team finished in second place in Group B with three wins and one loss. Italy remained unbeaten in Group A and finished in first place with four victories. The Netherlands plays its next game tonight vs. Czech Republic, starting at 5:30 PM. Italy's next game is also tonight vs. Greece, which went unbeaten in Group B. This game starts at 6:00 PM. Netherlands and Italy will close the final phase tomorrow-morning against respectively Great Britain and Russia. Those games will start at 10:00 AM. The Dutch games will be covered live again on this site. The results of the games in the preliminary round played between the teams concerned moved with the teams to the final phase. As a result, Italy and Greece are leading with a 2-0 record, followed by Great Britain and Netherlands, who both are 1-1. Czech Republic and Russia share fifth place with no wins and two losses. The four best teams of the final phase will qualify for the Play-Offs, which will open tomorrow-evening. The teams that will then finish in first, second and third place not only will win gold, silver and bronze on this European Championships, but also will qualify for the World Championships 2006 in Beijing (China).
