Second win for HCAW, Sparta-Feyenoord
Nederlands
THE HAGUE / ALMERE (Neth.) - Sparta-Feyenoord and Mr. Cocker HCAW took an important stride towards securing their spot in next years big league by winning Game 2 of their Play-Down series on Saturday. Sparta-Feyenoord won 8-4 at ADO, while HCAW won big in the evening at Almere Magpies, 16-5.

ADO vs. Sparta-Feyenoord
At The Hague, Sparta-Feyenoord failed to hold onto an early 4-1 lead, but decided the game with a 4-run rally in the ninth inning that broke a 4-4 tie.

Sparta-Feyenoord scored its first run in the first inning when Rubinet Koko doubled with one out and scored on a 2-out single by Rutger Veugelers, but ADO came alongside in the second inning when Gregory Gustina issued a walk to lead-off hitter Koen Meershoek, who then went on to score on a single by Jeroen Stentler.

Sparta-Feyenoord re-took the lead in the fourth inning by scoring two runs. ADO-started Ludwin Obispo walked lead-off hitter Rensver Jansen, who then advanced on a grounder and scored on a double by Ramiro Balentina. Singles by Sape Wagenaar and Berry van Donselaar then led to the second run and a 3-1 lead. In the seventh inning, Sparta-Feyenoord added a run when Nick Eppinga was hit by a pitch and scored on a throwing error when Rubinet Koko (who had singled) stole second base.

Trailing 4-1 in the home of the seventh, ADO did not hit a basehit, but got some support from the Sparta-Feyenoord defense, which committed three errors. Despite that, ADO managed to score only once. Pinch-hitter Anthony Vrolijk reached on an error and Allan Milliard walked, then a throwing error led to the run. Hereafter, still with no outs, ADO got the bases loaded when Berti Richardson reached on a fielder's choice and Boudewijn van Elswijk reached on an error. But then Michel Korzeniewski grounded into a 5-2-3 double play and Koen Meershoek flied out to end the inning.

In the eighth inning, ADO succeeded in coming alongside. Patrick Wabbijn led off with a walk and Remco Seitzinger singled, but then the first was thrown out at the plate trying to score on a single by Anthony Vrolijk. Next, Allan Milliard singled to bring in a run and Berti Richardson reached on an error to bring in the tying run. With runners on first and third base, batter Boudewijn van Elswijk was ejected for arguing and then his pinch-hitter Martijn Riphagen grounded out to end the inning.

With the score now tied at 4-4, Sparta-Feyenoord rallied for four runs in the top of the ninth inning. Nick Eppinga led off with a walk, advanced on a sac-bunt and then scored when Rubinet Koko tripled. A bunt-single (squeeze) by Rensver Jansen led to another run. After Ramiro Balentina reached on an error with two outs, a double by Sape Wagenaar gave Sparta-Feyenoord two additional runs and an 8-4 lead. In the home of the ninth, Gregory Gustina retired the side to register a complete game-victory.

Almere Magpies vs. HCAW
At Almere, HCAW collected 14 basehits, but trailed 5-0 after one inning, then came alongside in the second at bat and rallied for six runs in the fifth to win big vs. the Magpies.

After one inning, this game looked to be going Almere's way, as the home team had scored five runs in its first at bat off starting pitcher Kevin Miner. However, Miner, who gave up five hits in this inning, went on to throw seven more innings, allowed only two more hits, struckout ten and was credited with the win. In Almere's first, Wesley Bernardus led off with a single, but was forced out on a grounder by next batter Jason Orman. Next, Giovanni Samboe singled and Churandy La Cruz followed with an RBI-double to open the score. After striking out the next batter, Miner gave up an RBI-single to Brendan Nijhoff, which was followed by a 3-run homerun by former HCAW-catcher Juriën Overman.

But the big early lead didn't stand long, as HCAW reacted with five runs of its own in the next at bat off starter Sten van de Bedem, who also is a former HCAW-player. With one out, Van de Bedem loaded the bases by walking Bart Sabel and Dirimo Enrique Chavez and giving up a single to Randy Daal in between. Next, Joep van Els belted a 2-run double, Quensley Bazoer followed with a sacrifice fly and Adrian Anthony added an RBI-single. An error then led to the tying run.

In the fifth, HCAW had another big inning, scoring six runs on six hits. In this inning, Adrian Anthony led off with a double, then scored the tie-breaking run on an one-out single by Bart Gabriëls. Later in the at bat, and after a pitching change, Dirimo Enrique Chavez singled in a run, Joep van Els was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, Quensley Bazoer singled in two more runs and Anthony added an RBI-single in his second turn at bat in this inning to make it 11-5 in HCAW's favor.

HCAW scored two more runs in the eighth inning thanks to back-to-back RBI-doubles by Michael Pluijmers and Wuillians Martin Vasquez. Three runs were added in the ninth to lift the lead to 16-5.

Adrian Anthony went 4-for-5 and scored four runs, while Joep van Els scored three runs and had three RBI's. Quensley Bazoer also contributed with three RBI's.
