HAARLEM (Neth.) -
Veteran outfielder Dirk van 't Klooster of Corendon Kinheim is closing in on a hitting milestone, as he is approaching his 1000th career basehit.
Thursday-evening, he hit two of Kinheim's three basehits against league-leader L&D Amsterdam Pirates to increase his career total to 994.
This means, Van 't Klooster now needs only six basehits to reach the 1000-mark.
Van 't Klooster can reach the milestone this weekend when Kinheim again meets Pirates, on Saturday at Amsterdam, on Sunday at home in Haarlem.
When Van 't Klooster hits his 1000th basehit, he will become only the second player in Dutch big league-history to reach this milestone.
In 1999, Marcel Joost became the first to accomplish this feat.
Joost, who retired after the 2002 season, is the all-time career leader with 1166 basehits.
