Dutch Team nominated for Team of the Year Award

ARNHEM (Neth.) - The Netherlands Olympic Committee (NOC*NSF) has announced the nominations for the annual Jaap Eden Sports Awards, which will be handed out in Amsterdam on December 22. The evening will be broadcast live by the NOS. Studio Sport Anchor Mart Smeets again will host the evening.
Awards will be given to the Male Sporter of the Year, the Female Sport of the Year, the Team of the Year and the Handicapped Sport of the Year. Nominations were done by the Dutch sports press, winners will be chosen by the sporters, who are in attendance during the ceremony.

The Dutch national baseball-team has been nominated for the Team Award.
In 2005, the Dutch squad captured the European title and was the most impressive participant in the World Cup, which was held in The Netherlands in September. The Dutch squad won seven games in a row in the preliminary round and finally was eliminated in the bronze medal game, finishing in fourth place, their highest qualification ever.
Also nominated for the Team Award are PSV, the Dutch soccer champion and Cup-winner, which reached the semi-final of the Champions League and Marcelien de Koning and Lobke Berkhout, who won a sailing world title in the 470-class.

Nominated for Male Sporter are:
Rens Blom (pole vault), Yuri van Gelder (rings, gymnastics) and Dennis van der Geest (judo), who all won world titles.

Nominated for Female Sporter are:
Edith van Dijk (long distance swimming), Edith Bosch (judo) and Marit van Eupen (rowing), who also all won a world title.

Nominated for Handicapped Sporter are:
Esther Vergeer (wheel chair tennis), Toon van der Ploeg (water skiing), Pieter Gruiters (javelin, discus).

Van 't Klooster MVP; Cordemans Best Pitcher; more Awards

ROTTERDAM (Neth.) - Dirk van 't Klooster has been named Most Valuable Player of the 2005 season. Rob Cordemans was named Best Pitcher.
Earlier, it already was announced that Van 't Klooster was the Batting Champion of 2005 with a .403 average (71-for-176) and that Ivanon Coffie (Instant Holland Almere) was the Homerun King with 8 and that Jefferson Muzo (Konica Minolta Pioniers) won the award for Most Stolen Bases with 19.
The annual awards for the best baseball and softball players were handed out Saturday-evening during the European Baseball & Softball Clinic in Rotterdam.

Dirk van 't Klooster (DOOR Neptunus) won the MVP Trophy for his outstanding offensive results. Besides being the best hitter, the outfielder also led in Runs Scored (44), Basehits (71), Doubles (15), Total Bases (105) and Slugging Average (597). With 34 RBI's, he finished in second place, which he also did by hitting five homeruns. Next season, Van 't Klooster will wear the uniform of Kinheim.
Also nominated for the MVP Trophy were Catcher Mark Duursma (Konica Minolta Pioniers) and Pitcher Satoru Fujii (Sparta/Feyenoord).

Rob Cordemans (DOOR Neptunus) was the Best Pitcher with a 13-1 record and the league's best ERA with 0.77. The righthander threw 104 2/3 inning, struckout 89 and threw a No-Hitter.
Also nominated for the Best Pitcher Award were Richard Orman (Konica Minolta Pioniers) and Satoru Fujii (Sparta/Feyenoord).

The Holland Series MVP Award also was handed out on Saturday-evening and went to LHP Diegomar Markwell of DOOR Neptunus.

Lefthanded Pitcher Alexander Smit, who plays professionally in the organization of the Minnesota Twins won the Guus van der Heijden Memorial Trophy for Best National Team Player under 23 years old.

The Roel de Mon Award for best junior-pitcher went to Kevin Heijstek (DOOR Tridents), while the Ron Fraser Award for best junior-player was handed out to Sidney Ensermo (Amsterdam Pirates), who will play for Almere next season.

The Coachingstaff of the Netherlands Baseball Team, headed by Manager Robert Eenhoorn won the Coach of the Year Award for not only capturing the European title, but also the outstanding performance of the national squad during the World Cup, resulting in a baseball fever and a historic fourth position.

The I.M. Leen Volkerijk Award, which is handed out annually to persons with a distinctive career in development, was given posthumously to Reinhold Jahn, who passed away in September. Reinhold Jahn was active for a lot of years in the Apeldoorn-area for his club Robur '58 and being one of the initiators of the annual and successful Apeldoorn Baseball & Softball Series.

No 'Fanny' for Ensermo

AMSTERDAM (Neth.) - Infielder Sidney Ensermo was one of three players nominated for annual Amsterdam Talent of the Year, but on Tuesday-evening the honor and the Fanny (named after athlete Fanny Blankers-Koen) went to Ajax-soccer player Hedwiges Maduro. Also nominated was Nick van der Meer (tennis).
Third baseman Ensermo this year made his debut in the Dutch big league, playing for Amsterdam Pirates. He also was a member of the Dutch National Junior Team, that captured the European title in Spain. In that event, Ensermo was named Most Valuable Player, was the Homerun King and also had the most RBI's. On December 12, when the Dutch baseball and softball awards were handed out, Ensermo won the Ron Fraser Award for most talented youth-player. Next year, Ensermo will play for Instant Holland Almere.
Nominations were done by the sports editorial staffs of daily newspapers De Telegraaf and Het Parool, weekly newspaper De Echo and regional TV-channels AT5 (Amsterdam) and TV Noord-Holland. The public had a sixth vote for the nominations.

Other Amsterdam Awards:
Male Sporter of the Year: Guillaume Elmont, who won the world title judo under 81 kg in Egypt.
Female Sporter of the Year: Marit van Eupen, who won the world title rowing (skiff) in Japan.
Sports Team of the Year: the men team of Amsterdam Hockey.
Sports Coach of the Year: Josy Verdonkschot, the coach of Marit van Eupen.

National Baseball squad misses Sports Team of the year Award

AMSTERDAM (Neth.) - The Netherlands Baseball Team has not been voted National Sports Team of the Year 2005. The Dutch team (again) was one of three teams nominated for this honor. On Thursday-evening, the annual Jaap Eden Awards were handed out by the Netherlands Olympic Committee (NOC*NSF) in the Amsterdam RAI Theater in Amsterdam.
The evening was being broadcasted live by the NOS, hosted by Studio Sport Anchor Mart Smeets. Also announcing awards and introducing guests were Studio Sports-hosts Toine van Peperstraten, Tom Egbers, Jack van Gelder and Dione de Graaff. The Sports Gala will be replayed on Saturday, December 24 at 4:20 PM on Channel 2.
Awards also were given to the Male Sporter of the Year, the Female Sport of the Year and the Handicapped Sport of the Year. Nominations were done by the Dutch sports press, winners are chosen by the sporters, who are in attendance during the ceremony.

The annual Team Award was won by Marcelien de Koning and Lobke Berkhout, who won the sailing world title in the 470-class.
Also nominated was PSV, the Dutch soccer champion and Cup-winner, which reached the semi-final of the Champions League. PSV and the Dutch baseball-team shared second place.

Male Sporter of the Year: Yuri van Gelder (gymnastics), who won the world title for rings, resulting in him being nicknamed 'Lord of the Rings'.
For the first time, the Fanny Blankers-Koen Career Award were handed out. The first recipients were Sjoukje Dijkstra (figure skating), Ard Schenk (speed skating), Nico Rienks (rowing), Anton Geesink (judo) and Johan Cruyff (soccer).

Eenhoorn voted Rotterdam Coach of the Year

ROTTERDAM (Neth.) - Dutch National Baseball Team Manager Robert Eenhoorn on Friday-evening was voted Rotterdam Coach of the Year during Finish 2005, the annual ceremony in which sports awards are handed out to athletes, coaches and teams in the Rotterdam-area.
With the national team, Eenhoorn captured the European title in July and finished in fourth place on the World Cup in September, the highest ranking ever.
Also nominated for Rotterdam Coach of the Year were: Peter Blangé (ORTEC Rotterdam.Nesselande volleyball) and Adri van Tiggelen (Sparta Rotterdam soccer). It was the first time that this award was handed out.
Nominations were done by representatives of the following media: AD/Rotterdams Dagblad, Havenloods, Maasstad Weekbladen, Metro, editie Rotterdam, Rotterdam United, Rotterdams TOPsport Magazine, Radio Rijnmond and TV Rijnmond.

Dutch Baseball Champion DOOR Neptunus was nominated for Rotterdam Sports Team of the Year, but that honor went to the volleyball-team of ORTEC Rotterdam.Nesselande, which captured the Dutch title, won the national Cup and reached the European Cup Final. Nesselande won the award for the second year in a row and third time overall.
The soccerteam of Sparta Rotterdam also was nominated.

Kevin Heijstek, Pitcher of DOOR Tridents and the National Junior Team, was nominated for Rotterdam Talent of the Year, but also didn't win.
The Talent Award went to Joost Luiten (golf), who won the amateur Open Tournaments in Spain and Germany.
Also nominated were: Moreno Sheppard (karate) and Jonathan de Guzman (soccer).

Other Rotterdam Awards:
Male Sporter of the Year: Robert Doornbos, who made his debut in Formule 1 auto-racing.
Female Sporter of the Year: Elisabeth Willeboordse, who won the European judo-title under 63 kg and won the World Cup in Bulgaria.

Dave Draijer in TV Show

HILVERSUM (Neth.) - Dave Draijer, the righthanded closer of Dutch big league-team Konica Minolta Pioniers and the Dutch National Team, is one of ten participants in Lotto Weekend Miljonairs Sport of SBS 6.
The popular quiz show this week is broadcasted daily from Tuesday through Saturday, December 27 - 31 with a series that is dedicated to national sports federations.
Dave Draijer represents the Royal Dutch Baseball and Softball Association in the quiz and will try to earn as much money as possible, which can reach the maximum of 1 million Euro. All participating federations will get at least 2500 Euro to finance projects.
In the first four shows, Dave Draijer didn't reach the chair yet to face host Robert ten Brink and his questions. But as all shows already are being taped, it could be possible that Dave will be the prime candidate in Saturday's last show (December 31), which will air at 10:00 PM until 10:45 PM on SBS 6.

Kluijskens MVP; Soumeru Best Pitcher; more Awards

ROTTERDAM (Neth.) - Kim Kluijskens has been named Most Valuable Player of the 2005 season. Rebecca Soumeru was named Best Pitcher.
Earlier, it already was announced that Sandra Gouverneur (A4 Terrasvogels) was the Batting Champion of 2005 with a .411 average (37-for-90) and that Blake Hoorelbeke (Van der Peijl DSC '74) and Debby Connor were the Homerun Queens with 3. Ellen Venker (Van der Peijl DSC '74) won the award for Most Stolen Bases with 12.
The annual awards for the best baseball and softball players were handed out Saturday-evening during the European Baseball & Softball Clinic in Rotterdam.

Kim Kluijskens (New York Pizza Sparks Haarlem) won the MVP Trophy for her fine season both offensively and defensively. Kluijskens, who plays at First Base, led the league in Runs Scored (31), Basehits (42), Doubles (9) and finished in second place with a .400 batting average.
Also nominated for the MVP Trophy were Infielder Sandra Gouverneur (A4 Terrasvogels) and Short Stop Daisy de Peinder (Twins).

Best Pitcher Rebecca Soumeru dominated in the 2005 season with a 19-3 record, appearing in 25 games, throwing 133 2/3 inning and leading the league with 136 Strikeouts and 9 ShutOuts. She had a 0.63 ERA.
Also nominated for the Best Pitcher Award were Maaike Zijlstra (A4 Terrasvogels) and Andrea McNary (Twins).

The Holland Series MVP Award also was handed out on Saturday-evening and went to Outfielder Marloes Fellinger of New York Pizza Sparks Haarlem.

Saskia Kosterink (Tex Town Tigers), who studies and plays in the winter in the USA, won the Egbert van der Sluis Memorial Trophy for Best National Team Player under 23 years old.

The Riet Vermaat Trophy for best junior-pitcher went to Virginie Anneveld (Tex Town Tigers), while the Bep van Beijmerwerdt Trophy for best junior-player was handed out to Meike Witteveen (Tex Town Tigers).

The Nol Houtkamp Award, which is handed out annually to persons with a distinctive career in development, was given national team coach André Prins, who has been very active this year in player development, as he has been for numerous years before.

No Coach of the Year Award was handed out this year.

Veeris MVP; Moyo Best Pitcher; more Awards

ROTTERDAM (Neth.) - Julius Veeris has been named Most Valuable Player of the 2005 season. Tony Moyo was named Best Pitcher.
Earlier, it already was announced that Steven Ketting (Screenhouse Storks) was the Batting Champion of 2005 with a .451 average (32-for-71) and that Veeris was the Homerun King with 13 and also won the award for Most Stolen Bases with 10.
The annual awards for the best baseball and softball players were handed out Saturday-evening during the European Baseball & Softball Clinic in Rotterdam.

Julius Veeris (Kokolishi) won the MVP Trophy for his dominating offensive season. Besides being the best hitter and the homerun king (13), he also stole the most bases (10) and led the league in Runs Scored (33), Basehits (36), Doubles (7) and Runs Batted In (37).
Also nominated for the MVP Trophy were Infielder Michel Groenhart (DEMO EHS) and Outfielder Steven Ketting (Screenhouse Storks).

Botswanian Pitcher Tony Moyo (Screenhouse Storks) was the Best Pitcher with a 17-1 record and the league's best ERA with 0.81. He also led with 120 2/3 innings pitched and 213 StrikeOuts. Moyo threw 17 complete games and had 9 ShutOuts.
Also nominated for the Best Pitcher Award were Roberto Bahler and Glen Moreland (both of DEMO EHS).

The Holland Series MVP Award also was handed out on Saturday-evening and went to RHP Tony Moyo of Screenhouse Storks.
