Pioniers in semi-final

PRAGUE (Czech Rep.) - Konica Minolta Pioniers also won its second game of the CupWinners Cup-tournament on Thursday to become poolwinner and advanced to the Final Round.
The team from Hoofddorp won 21-1 against Antwerp Eagles, which currently is in last place in the Belgian national league. The game lasted only six innings, because of the international 20-run mercy rule.

Pioniers collected 15 basehits in this game, including four by rookie Bart Sabel, who went 4-for-4, including a triple, and also scored four runs. Jefferson Muzo was 3-for-4. Mark-Jan Moorman went 2-for-3, including a homerun, but scored three runs and had five RBI's. All 12 position players used by Pioniers in this game scored at least one run.

The Belgian oppponent had only two basehits. Pionier-starter Erik Jan Lind threw five innings in which he gave up one hit and struckout five batters. The righthander, who this season makes his debut in the Dutch big league, retired the first 14 batters he faced in order, before he gave up an infield-hit in the fifth inning with two outs. In the sixth inning, Daniël Overbeek threw for Pioniers and gave up the second Belgian basehit.

Pioniers opened the score with four runs in the first inning. After the first run was scored on a single by Edwin de Graaf, then added three more on two errors.
In the second inning, Jefferson Muzo singled and scored on a groundout by De Graaf.
Another 4-run rally followed in the third at bat. Bart Sabel led off with a single to start the rally in which the first two runs were scored on RBI-singles by Mark-Jan Moorman and Jefferson Muzo. Next, Michael Duursma added a 2-run single to make it 9-0. In the fourth inning, Bart Sabel tripled with one out and scored when an error was made on a grounder by Dè Flanegin, then Mark-Jan Moorman followed with a 2-run homerun.

Leading 12-0, Pioniers increased the lead to 18-0 in the fifth inning with a 6-run rally in which ten batters came to bat. Michael Duursma led off with a double and scored on an error. With the bases loaded, a grounder by >Norbert Lokhorst ended in a force out at home, but then a run was scored when Mark-Jan Moorman walked and another one on a sac-fly by Lars Koehorst. RBI-singles by Jaïr Roseburg and Jefferson Muzo accounted for three more runs.
In the sixth inning, Daniël Overbeek gave up the lone Belgian run when an error was made in the Pionier-defense, but then the 20-run difference was reached in the home sixth. Pioniers got the bases loaded with one out, then scored the necessary three runs the simple way when Mark-Jan Moorman and Lars Koehorst walked and Jaïr Roseburg was hit by a pitch to end the game.
