THE HAGUE (Neth.) - The make-up game between ADO and DOOR Neptunus, scheduled for Tuesday-evening, had to be canceled again after it already rained out last Saturday.
The heavy rain of the last few days made the field in the Leen Volkerijk Stadium unplayable, therefore it already was decided in the afternoon that there would be no game in the evening.

While there has been some discussion about re-scheduling the game for Wednesday-evening, that eventually didn't happen, as both teams have also games scheduled for Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
Therefore, a new date has not been announced yet, as ADO also has to re-play the two games that were declared invalid last week.

Sparta/Feyenoord returns to sixth place

ROTTERDAM (Neth.) - After two days on the seventh place, Sparta/Feyenoord on Tuesday-evening returned to the sixth place after winning 9-3 in a make-up game vs. Amsterdam Pirates. The original game rained out last Saturday.

Sparta/Feyenoord was ahead the entire game and outhit Pirates 13-8.
The Rotterdam-club opened the score in the second inning. With one out, Jeffrey Sprott doubled, moved on a grounder and scored on a single by Patrick Wabbijn.
In the third inning, Pirates-starter Robin Franken, who made his first start of the season after 19 relief-appearances, gave up an one-out single to Nick Eppinga, then struckout next batter Tim Roodenburg. The lefthander then gave up a single to Sjoerd Hermans, before ending the inning with another strikeout, this time for Jeroen Hermans.
Franken also started the fourth at bat with a strikeout, but then had to give his second run. With one out, Orson Slaats singled, advanced on a grounder and scored on a double by Sil Wagenaar.
Sparta/Feyenoord probably decided the game with a 3-run rally in the fifth inning to increase its lead to 5-0. Nick Eppinga led off with a single, then Tim Roodenburg was hit by a pitch. Eppinga then stole third base and Roodenburg advanced on a fielder's choice, before Sjoerd Hermans hit an RBI-single. With Roodenburg on third, Hermans was caught stealing, then his brother Jeroen Hermans struckout, but then Jeffrey Sprott followed with a 2-run homerun to make it 5-0. This was Sprott's fourth homerun of the season, which is the highest total for Sparta/Feyenoord since Eric de Bruin hit eight in 1999. In the same season, Sprott hit his last big league-homerun while playing for Neptunus. It then took him six-plus seasons to hit his next homerun this season.

Pirates was unable to score in the first six innings off Satoru Fujii. In both the first and second at bat, Pirates got a runner on third base with two outs. In the first, Roderick Simon walked with one out, but stranded at third. In the second, Fausto Álvarez Rizo led off with a single, but the next three batters were retired, leaving him at third base. In the third inning, Remco Draijer led off with an infield-hit, but was picked off first base in a double play after next batter Derick Francisca struckout. In the fifth, Pirates stranded two runners.
But in the seventh inning, Pirates came back with two runs on two errors. Fausto Álvarez, who was 3-for-4, led off with a single, but then Ralph Lagas and Björn Henrichs struckout. Satoru Fujii then walked Kevin Gerard. An error by third baseman Sil Wagenaar on a grounder by Remco Draijer enabled Álvarez to score. Next, Gerard scored when short stop Sjoerd Hermans made an error on a grounder by Derick Francisca. Hermans filled in at short for Ramphis Trinidad, who was hit on his mouth last Sunday by a bad-hop infield-hit. Trinidad needed stitches in his lip and therefore didn't play tonight. Taking Hermans' regular place at second base was rookie Tim Roodenburg, who earlier in the season pitched in three games.

Sparta/Feyenoord got one run back in the home seventh off new pitcher Robert van der Pol, who walked lead-off hitter Nick Eppinga. After a sac-bunt, Eppinga scored on a single by Sjoerd Hermans, who was 3-for-4.
In the eighth, Sparta/Feyenoord added three more runs. Again, the first batter in the inning walked, this time Jeffrey Sprott, then Orson Slaats singled. After Patrick Wabbijn struckout, the two runners moved on a double-steal, then on a wild pitch, resulting in a run. Sil Wagenaar followed with his second double of the game, making it 8-2. Moments later, Wagenaar scored on a 2-out single by Nick Eppinga, who also was 3-for-4.

With two outs in the ninth inning, Pirates had three basehits in a row, but scored only one more run. Remco Draijer singled, then scored when Derick Francisca followed with a double. Next batter Roderick Simon then also singled, but the game ended as Francisca was thrown out at the plate.
