ALKMAAR (Neth.) - Alcmaria Victrix remained on top in the First Division by winning its third game in a row on Saturday, defeating ADO 2, 8-4, in an Interleague-game. For ADO, this was its third loss in a row.

Alcmaria opened the season last week with two victories against Blue Birds. ADO played one game in the opening weekend and lost 11-5 to Mr. Cocker HCAW 2. Friday-evening, they were shutout 13-0 by Euro Stars. A reason for the three losses is that the team lost two pitchers to their big league-team. Initially, righthanders Jeoffrey de Groot and Gary Dacosta were on its roster, but the two were added to the main squad, which had pitching problems during the exhibition season. Quin Tramm, who was on the roster for ADO's third team was moved up to ADO-2 and today started. Tramm did well and threw seven innings. His team was leading 4-3 in the sixth inning when Alcmaria started to turn the game into its favor.

Alcmaria's veteran pitcher Mark Giroldi gave up two runs in the first at bat. The righthander started by walking Rodrinov Faries, then hit next batter Gregory Hassell with a pitch. After moving on a sac-bunt, the two scored on a single by Dave Steward.

In the home of the first, Alcmaria immediately came alongside. Michael Pluijmers led off with a double and advanced on an infield-hit by Sergio Paulina. A double-steal situation resulted in the first run, then Paulina later scored the tying run on a sac-fly by Ludrick Pieter.

ADO re-took the lead by scoring twice in the third inning. After first batter Gregory Hassell was hit by a pitch, Paul van Velthoven and Dave Steward followed with back-to-back doubles to make it 4-2. Steward was credited with all four RBI's. Alcmaria got one run back in the home of the third when Dennis Blom singled, moved to third base on two wild pitches, then scored on a sac-fly by Martin de Boer.

In the fourth and fifth inning, Alcmaria stranded four runners, but then scored twice in the sixth inning to take the lead for the first time. Rob van de Kamer led off with a walk, moved on a sac-bunt by Nick Tieman and an infield-hit by Michael Pluijmers, then scored the tying run on a single by pinch-hitter Linoy Croes. Moments later, Pluijmers scored the go-ahead run on a bunt-single by Dennis Blom, before a double play ended the inning.

In the seventh inning, two runs were added to make it 7-4. Quin Tramm hit lead-off batter Martin de Boer with a pitch, then uncorked a wild pitch. No play could be made when Just van Heems followed with a bunt, then an error was made on a grounder by Onno Jansen, resulting in a run. Van Heems later scored on a grounder by Nick Tieman.
Alcmaria scored its eighth run in the eighth inning off new pitcher Calvin Martinez, who walked lead-off hitter Dennis Blom, who later scored on a wild pitch.

After scoring two runs in the third inning, ADO was silenced for the remainder of the game. After Dave Steward's double, ADO would reach base only four more times in the next six innings. After the double, Mark Giroldi retired 12 of the next 13 batters he faced, including the last eight in a row and seven of them with a strikeout. He only would give up a single to Ruensley St. Jago in the fourth. In the seventh, Joran Klarenbeek took over and only saw Gregory Hassell reach on an error in the seventh inning. Rick Pluijmers threw the ninth inning. With one out, he started a game-ending double play to secure the victory.
