ROTTERDAM (Neth.) - Corendon Kinheim opened its exhibition season on Saturday with a surprisingly big 17-8 victory against reigning champion DOOR Neptunus.
Neptunus, which committed five errors, trailed 10-0 in the fourth inning, but came back to 10-7 in the fifth inning. Kinheim hold onto its lead and increased it with a 6-run rally in the seventh inning.
For Kinheim, this was its first game under new Head Coach Ben Thijssen, who the last four seasons was one of the coaches with Neptunus.

After a scoreless first inning, Kinheim rallied for five runs in the second inning on four runs off Czech starter Leoš Kubát. Tjerk Smeets, who went 5-for-5 with two doubles and scored four runs in his Kinheim-debut, led off the inning with a double. He moved when a throwing error was made on a grounder by next batter Edward Illidge. The bases were loaded when former Neptunian Roel Koolen hit a comebacker to Kubát and reached on an infield-hit. The bases were cleared on a 3-run double by Robin Longhurst, that gave Kinheim a 3-0 lead. Longhurst then scored himself on a single by Wouter Heemskerk. The bases were re-loaded when Kubát walked Denny Beljaards and Quincy Bernardus, then saw another run being scored on a grounder by René Cremer.
In the third inning, Kinheim increased its lead to 9-0 by adding four runs. Ferenc Jongejan, who had taken over the pitching, walked three batters and hit two others in the inning. The inning ended when leftfielder Melfried Comenencia threw out a runner at the plate on a single by Dirk van 't Klooster, who had played for Neptunus since 2000 and today faced his former team. Van 't Klooster, who played in centerfield, went 1-for-5.

After Kinheim added another run in the fourth inning, Neptunus finally was able to get on the board in the home fourth when Jurriaan Korff hit a homerun.

Kinheim-pitcher Jimmy van der Veldt, who had entered the game the inning before, walked four batters and had to be relieved by Jeffrey Verbij, who walked a batter and hit another with the bases loaded. Another run in this inning was scored on a sac-fly by Calvin Martinus (the son of Sparta/Feyenoord Head Coach Wim Martinus), who added an RBI-single in the sixth inning.

Leading 11-8, Kinheim rallied for six runs in the seventh inning when eleven batters faced Jan Naterop. Neptunus didn't got the breaks in this game, as the Kinheim-defense was on the right place every time. In the home seventh, Neptunus got the bases loaded, but then Jeroen Sluijter lined back to Jeffrey Verbij, who threw him out to end the game.

He then scored when next hitter Glenn Romney homered. With one out, Dč Flanegin (3-for-3) doubled and scored on a 2-out triple by Norbert Lokhorst.

It then took until the sixth inning, before another run was scored in this game. ANTWERP (Belgium) - Mr. Cocker HCAW, another team with a new Head Coach this season, opened its exhibition series with a 10-1 victory in Belgium.
The team, led by Maurice DeConge, defeated Antwerp Eagles, whom they also will meet on Sunday.

HCAW opened the score with two runs on two outs in the first inning. Lead-off hitter Martijn Meeuwis walked, advanced when Gino Henson also walked with one out, then stole third base. With two outs, Rodney Michel and Bas de Jong singled to bring in the first two runs.
Antwerp Eagles came back with a run in the second inning when Martin Caruso led off with a single and scored on a grounder, but this was to be their lone run in the game. HCAW got the run back in the third inning when Gino Henson singled and scored on a double by Rodney Michel.

In the fourth and fifth inning, two more runs were added. In the fourth, the run was scored in a weird way. Nick Fridsma (hit by pitch) was on third base and Martijn Meeuwis (single) on first with one out. The next batter was then retired after he flied out to the third baseman, but Meeuwis had left his base on the hit. The third baseman decided to go over to first base himself to retire Meeuwis, but in the meantime Fridsma scored a run. Fridsma made his comeback in the team. He had announced his retirement after last season, but came back a few weeks ago and most likely will be with the team again in the regular season. In the fifth inning, Sidney de Jong homered to make it 5-1.

HCAW rallied for five runs in the seventh to incease the lead to 10-1. First, Gino Henson led off with a homerun. Sidney de Jong then singled and Rodney Michel doubled, his second in the game. De Jong scored on a wild pitch and Michel on an error. With two runners on and one out, rookie Nick Makkinje produced a 2-run single to make it 10-1.
