THE HAGUE (Neth.) - Kokolishi on Saturday recorded two one-run victories vs. Centrals, 5-4 and 3-2, to remain the unbeaten league-leader after six games.

In the opener, which lasted two hours and 22 minutes, Kokolishi trailed 4-1 after three innings, but then came alongside and won in the fifth at bat.
Centrals opened the score in the first inning, but also stranded three runners. Joost de Bruin singled with one out, then Ciro Ricardo walked. An error on a grounder by Roman Matuska loaded the bases. After Enrique Javier became the second out in the inning on an infield-fly, veteran Milton Gilbert was walked by José Guerrero, who made his debut for Kokolishi and in the big league. The walk gave Centrals a 1-0 lead, but then Wendell Paula popped out to end the inning and leaving the bases loaded.
Kokolishi tied the score in the home first when Enio Kwas walked, advanced to third on a single by Anthony Hooi and scored on a passed ball.
Centrals re-took the lead in the second inning by scoring twice. With one out, Sander Wuis singled and Kamiel Zuidam doubled. Wuis then scored on a grounder by Joost de Bruin. After Zuidam moved to third on a wild pitch, powerhitter Ciro Ricardo was hit by a pitch, but then Roman Matuska reached on an infield-hit, enabling Zuidam to score.
Another run was added in the third inning. Milton Gilbert led off with a walk, advanced on a passed ball and scored on a one-out single by René Richardson, but that at bat ended with a double play.
Trailing 4-1, Kokolishi came back in the fourth and tied the score with no outs. Centrals-pitcher Roman Matuska walked lead-off hitter Irvin Redan, then gave up back-to-back RBI-doubles to Eugene Martha and Luigi Anasagasti and an RBI-single to Roderick Postina.
In the fifth, Kokolishi became on top for the first time in the game. Lead-off hitter Anthony Hooi struckout, but catcher Enrique Javier didn't had control over the ball, then made a throwing error to first base. After Julius Veeris struckout, Hooi advanced to second on a wild pitch. He then was able to score the go-ahead run all the way from second base an another wild pitch. Roman Matuska then also struckout Irvin Redan, but Kokolishi had taken the lead to keep.
Centrals got a chance to come back, but left the bases loaded (again) in the sixth inning when José Guerrero had some control problems when he walked two batters and hit another.

In Game Two, Kokolishi scored three runs in the first inning which proved to be enough. Lead-off hitter Enio Kwas struckout, but reached first base on a wild pitch, then Anthony Hooi singled. With one out, the two scored on a single by Irvin Redan, who advanced to third when Eugene Martha singled, then scored when Martha was caught in a rundown between first and second.
Centrals answered with two runs in the third inning with two outs. Kamiel Zuidam (fielder's choice) was on first base when Joost de Bruin singled. Zuidam then scored on a single by Ciro Ricardo, which was followed by an RBI-single by Roman Matuska, but a grounder ended the inning.
In the fourth inning, Centrals got the bases loaded with no outs off starter Aldwin Bonafacio, who was then relieved by José Guerrero. The righthander struckout Robert Gerwig, then a grounder by Kamiel Zuidam resulted in a force out at home. Another grounder ended the at bat and the last scoring opportunity for Centrals, as Guerrero retired nine of the next ten batters and was supported with a double play in the sixth inning.

In the opener, veteran righthander Erwin Visser threw a 2-hit shutout and struckout 13 batters. He only allowed RCH-Pinguïns to reach base in the three middle innings (3rd, 4th and 5th) of the seven inning he pitched. Only one player was able to reach third base, which happened when Tim van Amerongen reached on an infield-hit with two outs in the fourth inning and was able to reach third base on a throwing error.

Two big wins for Storks
Nederlands | Line Scores | Box Score # 1 | Box Score # 2 | Spikes' previous games | Storks' previous games
Standings | Schedule | All Line Scores & Box Scores

SPIJKENISSE (Neth.) - Screenhouse Storks on Saturday won twice vs. Spikes, 18-6 and 16-6.
But there was more in this double-header than a lot of runs. Besides 46 runs, there were 44 basehits, including eight homeruns. There were eight errors, nine pitchers, 19 defensive changes, three injuries and an ejection.
And again, Storks played games that lasted more than two hours each. The opener lasted two hours and 22 minutes, the second game two hours and five minutes. Each of the six games played by Storks so far went two hours. In the opening weekend, the games vs. Kokolishi lasted 2:01 and 2:20 hours. Last week, against RCH-Pinguïns, the games lasted 2:00 and 3:06 hours.

In the opener, Storks trailed 3-0 after two innings. Spikes scored three runs in the home second on a 2-run double by Evert Versloot and a single by Marcel Swarttouw.
In the third, Storks answered with a 9-run rally. Spikes-starter Titus Blom walked lead-off hitter Geza Kovacs, who advanced on a wild pitch and an infield-hit by Ronald Romijn, who also moved on another wild pitch which went by the head of batter René Nieveld. Next, Nieveld, who played a lot of seasons in the Dutch baseball big league for ADO, singled, allowing Kovacs (who also played in the baseball bigs in the past) to score. An error on a grounder by Bob Bik resulted in another run. Titus Blom was then relieved by Arjan Baanen, who, after a wild pitch, walked Lars Opdenbrouw to load the bases. Rob van der Vlist then singled off the knee of Baanen, who had to leave the game with an injury. Jan Zelenka took over and started with a strikeout, but then gave up more runs on a sac-fly by Kenny Dame, a 2-run single by Ed Hoet and a 3-run homerun by Ronald Romijn, who had two hits and scored twice in this at bat.
In the fifth, Storks added a run on a single by Kenny Dame to make it 10-3, but then the 7-run lead was reduced to six run when Wout Cnops hit a homerun.
By scoring twice in the sixth off new pitcher Wout Cnops, Storks regained a 7-run difference needed for the mercy-rule, but again Spikes annulled that when René Koelink hit a 2-out, 2-run homerun in the home sixth.
In the seventh, Storks scored six more runs, only one earned when Spikes committed three errors.

In Game Two, Arjan Baanen, who had left the opener with a knee-injury, started this game for Spikes. However, after five innings he left again as he knee started to swell and went to a doctor for a check-up. He wasn't the only one who visited a doctor, as the team's dug-out scorer was hit by a foul ball and had a bloody nose.
Baanen saw Storks produce a 6-run rally in the first inning, hightlighted by back-to-back homeruns by Ronald Romijn (3-run) and Bob Bik. Moments before Romijn hit his homerun, Geza Kovacs hit an RBI-double, but had to leave the game with a hamstring-injury.
Spikes came back with two runs in its first at bat on a 2-run triple by Jan Zelenka, but Storks got the runs back in the third on a basesloaded walk and a passed ball.
Evert Versloot singled in a run for Spikes in the third and Marcel Swarttouw did the same in the fourth, but again Storks answered with runs of its own. In the fifth, they scored four runs when Joost Droog hit an RBI-double and Kenny Dame followed with a 3-run homerun.
In its fifth, Spikes scored twice when Evert Versloot hit a 2-run homerun, but that was all.
Titus Blom took over for Baanen in the sixth inning. He first saw a run being scored on a fielder's choice-grounder, then gave up a 2-out, 3-run homerun to Joost Droog and started to criticize ball and strikes. After a walk and a hit by pitch, Blom argued again and was ejected by veteran Home Plate Umpire Bert Loggen. Wout Cnops took over and ended the inning with a groundout.
Spikes was unsuccessful in the home sixth after which the game ended as enough runs were scored for the mercy rule to become in place.
