Neptunus defeats DSS in one inning
Nederlands
ROTTERDAM (Neth.) - Curaçao Neptunus won 4-1 vs. DSS on Saturday (May 16) to register another small victory against the team that makes it big league-debut this season.

Neptunus scored all of its runs in the fifth inning and they were all unearned, as the DSS-defense committed two errors.

With the win, Neptunus took sole possession of first place, as L&D Amsterdam Pirates today lost to Vaessen Pioniers.

(May 16)

Starting pitchers Orlando Yntema (Neptunus) and Jorn van Ingen (DSS) both threw four scoreless innings. In that span, both teams stranded two runners.

In the second inning, Ryan Miner and Tino van Erk led off with singles for DSS, but a strikeout and double play followed. In the third, Lex Leijenaar led off with a walk and Mark Smit singled with one out. This time, the lead runner was caught stealing at third base and a grounder ended the at bat.

For Neptunus, Gianison Boekhoudt led off the second inning with a single and advanced on an error, then stranded on third base. In the third, Shaldimar Daantji walked with one out and moved on a single by Christian Diaz, then DSS turned a double play.

In the top of the fifth inning, Shane Boeree singled with one out for DSS, but then the Neptunian defense turned another double play.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Neptunus scored its four runs, which were all unearned. The at bat began when Rien Vernooij reached on an error, then stole second base. After Shurman Marlin walked, Shaldimar Daantji singled in the first run with one out. Christian Diaz then also singled, but when an outfield-error followed two more runs could be scored. With two outs, a single by Raily Legito made it a 4-0 score.

DSS got one run back in the sixth inning. Tommy van der Sanden and Mark Smit then both walked. The two advanced via a double steal with one out, then Mitchell Koot walked. Next, Van der Sanden scored on a wild pitch, but two runners were left behind.

DSS-relievers Mike Groen and Mark van Deursen saw Neptunus reach base again in their final three at bats. The two avoided giving up more runs, while Neptunus stranded five runners.

Neptunus turned another double play in the seventh inning, then relievers Kevin Kelly and Loek van Mil closed the game for the Rotterdam-squad.
