10 in a row for Neptunus; Almere spoils No-Hitter

ROTTERDAM / AMSTERDAM / HAARLEM / THE HAGUE (Neth.) - DOOR Neptunus on Saturday won its tenth game in a row and was close to its second No-Hitter in two days, as the Rotterdam-squad shutout Almere Magpies 7-0. Leon Boyd made his first start of the season and lost a No-Hitter in the eighth inning when rookie Siegert Flaneur hit his first big league basehit, which would be the lone hit for Almere in the game.
Mr. Cocker HCAW took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning vs. L&D Amsterdam Pirates and was leading 4-1 in the sixth, but failed to hold onto this lead. HCAW re-took the lead in the seventh, but Amsterdam tied the score again by scoring in the ninth. HCAW then went on to win the game eventually scoring a run in the eleventh inning to win 6-5.
Corendon Kinheim held a commanding 6-0 lead after three innings vs. Konica Minolta Pioniers and appeared to be en route to a big score, but hereafter no more runs were added. Pioniers was able to score twice and lost 6-2, giving Kinheim its seventh win in a row.
Sparta-Feyenoord trailed 6-3 vs. ADO when the ninth inning began, but then suddenly rallied for six runs to win 9-6.

DOOR Neptunus vs. Almere Magpies, 7-0
ROTTERDAM (Neth.) - DOOR Neptunus on Saturday won its tenth game in a row and was close to its second No-Hitter in two days, as the Rotterdam-squad shutout Almere Magpies 7-0. Leon Boyd made his first start of the season and lost a No-Hitter in the eighth inning when rookie Siegert Flaneur hit his first big league basehit, which would be the lone hit for Almere in the game. Leading 1-0, Neptunus decided the game when it got a 4-run rally in the fifth inning, then added two more runs in the next at bat.

Leon Boyd retired 15 of the first 16 batters. In the third, he walked lead-off batter Jaïr Roseburg, but then retired the next nine, before walking Siegert Flaneur to start the sixth at bat. In the seventh, the righthander walked his third batter, Churandy la Cruz, but took a No-Hitter into the eighth at bat. After striking the lead-off hitter, Siegert Flaneur hit a broken-bat single just over the infield to break the No-Hitter. It marked the end for Boyd, who was relieved by Jorian van Acker. The inning then ended when Daniël Zijderveld grounded into a double play. In the ninth, Berry van Driel closed the game, retiring the side.

Neptunus was held scoreless in the first three innings by Sten van de Bedem, but then scored its first run in the fourth. Benjamin Dille led off with a single and went on to score on an one-out single by Danny Rombley. Neptunus then rallied for four runs in the fifth. Jeffrey Arends and Martijn Meeuwis started with singles, then Shaldimar Daantji also singled (with one out) to bring in a run. Joep de Wit was brought in as new pitcher, but gave up an RBI-single to Eugène Kingsale, then a runscoring grounder to Dille and a 2-run single to Raily Legito. Two runs were added in the sixth, both on a single by Meeuwis.

AMSTERDAM (Neth.) - Mr. Cocker HCAW took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning vs. L&D Amsterdam Pirates and was leading 4-1 in the sixth, but failed to hold onto this lead, as the home team came alongside in the sixth, which was highligted by a 2-run triple by rookie Roeland Henrique, Jr.. HCAW re-took the lead in the seventh, but Amsterdam tied the score again by scoring in the ninth. HCAW then went on to win the game eventually scoring a run in the eleventh inning to win 6-5.

In the first inning, HCAW scored three runs off starter Jos de Jong. With one out, Michael Pluijmers doubled and advanced on a wild pitch. After next batter Bart Gabriëls walked, Randy Daal and Mitchel Koot followed with runscoring singles, then an error on a fly ball by Adrian Anthony made it 3-0.

Amsterdam got one run back in the third when Roeland Henrique, Jr. led off with a single and scored on a 2-out single by Bas de Jong. After giving up the three runs in the first at bat, Jos de Jong recovered and retired nine batters in a row between the second and fifth inning. In the sixth, HCAW scored another run to take a 4-1 lead when Mitchel Koot walked and scored on a sac-fly by Sebastiaan Olgers.

But in the home of the sixth, Amsterdam appeared to turn the game into its own favor, scoring three runs and tying the score. Bas de Jong led off with a double and Vince Rooi followed with a single. A grounder by Zaïr Koeiman resulted in a run. With Rooi on third base, Michael Kramer walked, then Roeland Henrique, Jr. hit a triple off the rightfield wall to tie the score, but he was left behind on third base.

In the seventh inning, Rik Geestman took over the pitching for Amsterdam and gave up another go-ahead run to HCAW. Dirimo Enrique Chavez led off with a double and went on to score on an error, but the home team tied the score again in the ninth at bat. Joran Klarenbeek, who had taken over the pitching in the seventh inning for starter Kevin Miner, gave up a lead-off single to Kenny Berkenbosch, who then reached second base safely on an error on a force play-grounder by Sidney de Jong. After the two advanced on a sac-bunt by Bas de Jong, Vince Rooi was walked intentionally to set up a force play. However, with two outs, Rashid Gerard walked to bring in the tying run. But then, Amsterdam left the bases loaded, as a grounder ended the at bat to put the game into extra innings.

Amsterdam-closer Pim Walsma, who had taken over in the ninth, retired six batters in a row, but then gave up a lead-off double in the eleventh to Bart Sabel, who moved on an one-out single by Quensley Bazoer and scored on a sac-fly by Dirimo Enrique Chavez. In its own eleventh, Amsterdam left a runner on first base.

Corendon Kinheim vs. Konica Minolta Pioniers, 6-2
HAARLEM (Neth.) - Corendon Kinheim held a commanding 6-0 lead after three innings vs. Konica Minolta Pioniers and appeared to be en route to a big score, but hereafter no more runs were added. Pioniers was able to score twice and lost 6-2, giving Kinheim its seventh win in a row. Bryan Engelhardt hit a 3-run homerun for Kinheim in the third inning.

In the first at bat, René Cremer led off for Kinheim with a walk, stole second base, advanced on an error and scored on a grounder by Jason Halman. The Haarlem-team added two runs in the second when lead-off hitter Tjerk Smeets reached second base on an error, Rafael Jozefa was hit by a pitch and Rodney Michel reached on an infield-hit to load the bases. Next, Björn Henrichs singled to bring in a run, then a force play-grounder by Remco Draijer gave Kinheim a 3-0 lead.

Kinheim made it 6-0 in the next inning. Dirk van 't Klooster and Jason Halman led off with singles and then Bryan Engelhardt hit his second homerun of the season. But that also would the last run scored by Kinheim. In their remaining five at bats, only two more basehits were added.

Kinheim-starter Duko Jansen held Pioniers to only three hits in six innings, with two of them leading to an (unearned) run in the sixth. With two outs, Mark Duursma singled down the third base-line with the ball hitting the base. He then stole second base, moved to third on a single by Jakub Malik and scored on a high throw from leftfield. In the ninth, Pioniers scored its second run off closer Onno Baur. He walked Mervin Gario, who then advanced on a wild pitch and a grounder and scored on another wild pitch.

ADO vs. Sparta-Feyenoord, 6-9
THE HAGUE (Neth.) - Sparta-Feyenoord trailed 6-3 vs. ADO when the ninth inning began, but then suddenly rallied for six runs to win 9-6. Highlight in the productive at bat was a 3-run triple by Sape Wagenaar, that gave Sparta-Feyenoord the 9-6 lead.

Sparta-Feyenoord took an 1-0 lead in the second inning when Ramiro Balentina led off with a double and stole third base, then scored on a 2-out single by Tim Roodenburg, the scheduled starting pitcher for Game Three in this series, who was the second baseman today. In the next three innings, the team reached base only once, but then added a run in the sixth. José Ventura, the starting pitcher of Game One and today's centerfielder, led off with a double and scored on an one-out single by Ramiro Balentina. Both Ventura and Balentina were 3-for-4.

ADO got one run back in the sixth when Frans Richardson led off with a single, stole second, advanced on a single and scored on a sac-fly by his brother Berti Richardson. In the next at bat, ADO scored twice to take a 3-2 lead. Stefan Venema led off with a single, advanced on a sac-bunt by pinch-hitter Jeroen Stentler and scored the tying run when pinch-hitter Matt Ryan singled with one out. Frans Richardson followed with another single to give ADO the lead.

In the eighth, Sparta-Feyenoord tied the score. With one out, Percy Isenia walked, advanced to third base on a double by Ramiro Balentina, then scored on a basesloaded walk for Sape Wagenaar, but stranded three runners. That was costly at that moment, as ADO reacted with three runs in the home of the eighth to take a 6-3 lead. With one out, ADO got the bases loaded when Boudewijn van Elswijk walked, Stefan Venema singled and Jeroen Stentler also walked. Singles by next hitters Matt Ryan, Frans Richardson and Anthony Vrolijk then resulted in three runs and a 6-3 lead. ADO also left three runners, which also proved to be costly.

In the ninth, Nick Eppinga, José Ventura and Percy Isenia all singled with one out off Tjibbe van Dijk, who was then relieved by Matt Ryan. The American walked Ramiro Balentina to bring in a run and gave up a single to Imco Rudolph, which was followed by an error that tied the score. With runners on second and third base, Ryan walked Rubinet Koko intentionally and was replaced by Martijn Riphagen. He was greeted with a 3-run triple by Sape Wagenaar that gave Sparta-Feyenoord a 9-6 lead.
