Pioniers ends Kinheim-streak; three games cancelled again
Nederlands
ALMERE / BUSSUM / HOOFDDORP / ROTTERDAM (Neth.) - On a rainy Tuesday-evening, the match-up between Mr. Cocker HCAW and L&D Amsterdam Pirates became the first of four scheduled make-up games to be cancelled again, due to rain. Initially, the other three games were still scheduled to be played, with two of them delayed by rain. This eventually also led to the cancellation of the game between Almere Magpies and DOOR Neptunus in Almere and the confrontation between Sparta-Feyenoord and ADO at Rotterdam. The HCAW vs. Amsterdam and Sparta-Feyenoord vs. ADO games were re-scheduled for Tuesday, May 18. The Almere vs. Neptunus game is re-scheduled for Tuesday, June 15, as Neptunus already has a game scheduled next Tuesday-evening.

The games were originally scheduled to be played on Sunday, May 2, but then rained out and were re-scheduled for the next day. However, all four games were then postponed again due to rain and re-scheduled for today.

The lone game that started on schedule was between Konica Minolta Pioniers and Corendon Kinheim and could be completed. Pioniers won the game, 2-0 and with that ended Kinheim's winning streak, which stood at 10 games. Despite the very cold weather and the game being played in the rain from the sixth inning on, it could be completed.

The game remained scoreless for six innings and was a pitching duel between lefthander Nick Veltkamp (Kinheim) and righthander Jurjen van Zijl (Pioniers). The latter retired the first 10 batters he faced, before giving up a single to Dirk van 't Klooster with one out in the fourth inning, but that was the lone hit he gave up in the first seven innings he pitched. In the fifth and sixth inning, Van Zijl walked a batter, then gave up a single to Björn Henrichs in the eighth inning, but none of the four Kinheim-runner went beyond first base in this game. Van Zijl went the distance, struckout four and threw a 2-hitter.

Pioniers got more runners on base and also got scoring opportunities in the first five at bats. In the first inning, Michael Duursma singled with one out and went on to reach third base on a grounder and an error, but stranded there, as Veltkamp retired the next eight batters in a row and 12 of the next 13. In the fifth inning, with two outs, Kevin Dirksen walked and Jefferson Muzo singled to put runners in first and third base, but again, Pioniers was unable to score. Another scoring opportunity came in the sixth at bat. With one out, Veltkamp walked Jakub Malik and then also walked Norbert Lokhorst with two outs. Hereafter, Onno Baur relieved Veltkamp and ended the inning by striking out the next batter.

Pioniers then scored twice in the seventh inning. With one out, Kevin Dirksen singled and was replaced by pinch-runner Mervin Gario, who then advanced when Jefferson Muzo also singled. With two outs, Mark Duursma added a single that enabled Gario to score, then Muzo also went on to score when a throwing error from leftfield followed.
