Another record for Neptunus
Nederlands
THE HAGUE / HAARLEM / ROTTERDAM / ALMERE (Neth.) - With a 5-0 shutout-win at ADO, league-leader DOOR Neptunus registered its 38th victory of the season. With this, the Rotterdam-team equaled both the club-record, as well as the all-time league-record. In 1999, Neptunus became the first team to win 38 games in the regular season, finishing with a 38-7 record. In 2002, they equaled the record and also finished with a 38-7, but played two ties in the then 47-game schedule. Currently, Neptunus is 38-3 and has a chance to win its 39th game on Sunday in the last game of the regular season. In both 1999 and 2002, Neptunus captured the Dutch championship title.

At The Hague, Neptunus scored twice in the fourth inning on an one-out, basesloaded, 2-run single by Martijn Meeuwis off starting pitcher Boudewijn van Elswijk, who made his first start of the season, as he normally is a position player. In the fifth, Neptunus added a run when Danny Rombley doubled and scored on a 2-out single by Jeffrey Arends (who was 3-for-5). A wild pitch in the seventh inning enabled Benjamin Dille to score, then a sacrifice fly by Shaldimar Daantji in the eight made it 5-0. Neptunus used four pitchers, who combined on a 5-hitter.

At Haarlem, L&D Amsterdam Pirates shutout Corendon Kinheim, 2-0. Amsterdam was held scoreless for six innings by starter Duko Jansen, but then scored its first run in the seventh when Kenny Berkenbosch led off with a double and scored on a sacrifice fly by Bas Nooij. The second run was then added in the eighth off reliever Steven van Groningen when Nick Urbanus singled and scored on a 2-out single by Bas de Jong. Amsterdam-starter Rob Cordemans held Kinheim hitless in the first three innings and gave up only three in the seven innings he pitched. Al Morales Gomes completed the game and gave up no more hits to earn his fourth save.

At Rotterdam, Mr. Cocker HCAW defeated Sparta-Feyenoord 2-1 in 10 innings. HCAW took an 1-0 lead in the first at bat when Rick Pluijmers singled with one out, advanced on a double by Wuillians Vasquez and scored on a 2-out single by Bart Sabel. Sparta-Feyenoord tied the score in the fifth inning when Rutger Veugelers singled with one out, stole second base and advanced to third base on a throwing error, then scored on a single by Ramiro Balentina. In the eighth inning, HCAW stranded two runners and Sparta-Feyenoord left the bases loaded. HCAW then re-took the lead in the tenth inning off lefthander Gregory Gustina, who went the distance for Sparta-Feyenoord. Bart Gabriëls led off with a single, advanced on a sac-bunt and scored on a single by Randy Daal.

At Almere, Konica Minolta Pioniers was leading only 2-1 vs. Almere Magpies after five innings on Saturday-evening, then rallied for eleven runs in the sixth at bat en route to a 13-1 victory. In the first five innings, Almere outhit Pioniers 9-4, but scored only once.
Pioniers opened the score in the first inning when Mervin Gario scored on a wild pitch, then added a run in the second when Gario hit an RBI-double. Almere got one run back in the home of the second when Juriën Overman scored on an error. Hereafter, Almere-starter Dennis Burgersdijk held Pioniers scoreless for two innings, as did reliever Joep de Wit in the fifth. But in the sixth at bat, Pioniers collected seven basehits and scored eleven runs off De Wit and Forstin Coenraad. In the inning, the first three runs were scored on a grounder, balk and wild pitch, then two more were added on a single by Jakub Malik. Hereafter, Coenraad took over the pitching, but gave up four consecutive basehits, an one-run single by Norbert Lokhorst, 2-run single by Shurty Tremus, 2-run triple by Skip Visser and RBI-single by Mervin Gario, before the inning finally ended when Michael Duursma flied out.
