Neptunus, Amsterdam, HCAW complete sweep

ROTTERDAM / BUSSUM / HOOFDDORP / AMSTERDAM (Neth.) - DOOR Neptunus, L&D Amsterdam Pirates and Mr. Cocker HCAW all complete a 3-game sweep on Sunday. Neptunus came from behind to win 9-8 vs. Corendon Kinheim, which now has lost four in a row. With the win, Neptunus remained unbeaten at home, raising their record to 9-0. Amsterdam outscored Almere Magpies 14-4 and handed their opponent their fifth consecutive loss. HCAW won 6-0 vs. ADO, which also has lost five in a row now. With the win, HCAW moved into fourth place. Sparta-Feyenoord led almost the entire game vs. Konica Minolta Pioniers, which tied the score at 8-8 in the eighth inning. But in the ninth, Sparta-Feyenoord scored two runs again to win 10-8.

At Rotterdam, Kinheim led 8-5 in the eighth inning, but then their defense committed four errors, which gave Neptunus four runs and the win. Dushan Ruzic threw the last 2 2/3 inning and earned his league-leading fifth win.

At Bussum, HCAW-starter Kevin Roovers gave up five hits in eight innings, while his teammates collected 11 basehits, including three by Bart Gabriëls. Leading 1-0, HCAW scored three runs in the fifth inning, including two on a triple by Gabriëls.

At Hoofddorp, Sparta-Feyenoord led 5-0 halfway the third inning, but then Pioniers scored four runs. However, Sparta-Feyenoord held onto the lead and added three runs in the fifth. Pioniers came back to 8-6, then tied the score in the eighth inning. In the ninth, Sparta-Feyenoord came back immediately scoring two runs on an one-out triple by Sape Wagenaar. Infielder Mike Bazuin, who played in his first game of the season for Sparta-Feyenoord, completed the game as pitcher and became the winner.

At Amsterdam, Pirates collected 19 basehits, including five by Bas de Jong, who only missed a homerun to complete a cycle. De Jong also had four RBI's. Amsterdam initially trailed 3-0 in the first inning, but after scoring once in the first, the team rallied for five runs in the second to take charge of the game.
