Almere secures big league-spot!
Nederlands
ALMERE (Neth.) - Almere Magpies on Sunday won Game 3 vs. UVV, 4-2, to complete a 3-game sweep in the Promotion/Relegation Play-Off to secure its spot in next year big league. Because of this, UVV, which won the title in the First Division, will remain in the second highest Dutch baseball league.

But again, the win didn't come easy. UVV took an 1-0 lead in the first inning. After there initially were some problems with the mound, Almere-starter Roy Beems walked lead-off hitter Maarten de Wilde, then gave up a bunt-single to Jirka Bliek. The two runners then advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Glenn Romney, then De Wilde scored on a grounder by Fausto Álvarez Rizo, before a strikeout ended the inning.

After leaving two runners in the first inning, Almere came alongside in the second at bat off Hylke van Viersen. With one out, Stefan Hoogewerff was hit by a pitch, then Siegert Flaneur doubled. A grounder by Andy Raaff then led to the tying run, two runners would be left behind.

In the third inning, Almere took a 3-1 lead. With one out, Jason Orman singled and stole second, then Churandy La Cruz followed with a homerun.

UVV got one run back in the fifth inning, but left the bases loaded. Jeff Delfina led off with a walk, then Jirka Bliek singled with one out. Delfina tried to reach third base on the single, but was thrown out at third. Hereafter, Joep de Wit took over for Roy Beems, who walked Fausto Álvarez Rizo to load the bases. A wild pitch then led to a run, but De Wit re-loaded the bases when he walked Jeroen Hermans. But then the inning ended, when Álvarez was forced out on a grounder by Norbert Jongerius.

In the home of the fifth, it was Almere's turn to leave the bases loaded. With two outs, Churandy La Cruz singled, then Luigino Rosaria and Stefan Hoogewerff walked. But a grounder then ended the at bat.

Almere added a run in the sixth inning when Wesley Bernardus walked with one out, then Daniël Zijderveld and Giovanni Samboe singled, followed by a throwing error. UVV reached base again in the seventh and eighth inning and left three runners off veteran René Rijst, who had taken over in the sixth and was credited with the win in this game.

The game ended with an appeal-play. In the ninth, Dennis Burgersdijk took over after Rijst gave up a lead-off single to Quincy Cairo, who then advanced on a grounder by Jirka Bliek. Next, Glenn Romney flied out to centerfield and Cairo took off towards third base. But then, Almere appealed on second base that Cairo had left the base too early, which also was noticed by umpire Henny Jansen, who called the runner out to end the game.
