Another win for Neptunus

ROTTERDAM / HOOFDDORP / BUSSUM / ALMERE (Neth.) - League-leader DOOR Neptunus defeated Mr. Cocker HCAW 11-4 on Saturday to register its seventh victory in a row. The Rotterdam-team collected 17 basehits, including four by Martijn Meeuwis and a 3-run homerun by Raily Legito. Corendon Kinheim won big vs. Sparta-Feyenoord, 10-3, on 15 basehits, including four by Dirk van 't Klooster, who also scored three runs. Konica Minolta Pioniers won 4-1 to hand L&D Amsterdam Pirates its third loss in a row. In the evening, Almere Magpies had only two basehits vs. ADO, but went on to win 3-2 in 10 innings.


Sparta-Feyenoord vs. Corendon Kinheim, 3-10
ROTTERDAM (Neth.) - Corendon Kinheim won big vs. Sparta-Feyenoord, 10-3, on 15 basehits, including four by Dirk van 't Klooster, who also scored three runs. Bryan Engelhardt and Rafael Jozefa each contributed with two doubles.

Kinheim took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Remco Draijer and Dirk van 't Klooster singled and went on to score on an error and grounder. Sparta-Feyenoord took one run back in its first when Kevin van Nederpelt led off with a single and scored on a single by Dominican José Ventura. Hereafter, Percy Isenia grounded into a double play to end the inning. With this, Kinheim-starter Duko Jansen retired 15 of the next 17 batters. After having retired seven in a row, he gave up another single to Van Nederpelt, who was then caught stealing. In the sixth, Jansen gave up a lead-off double to Shurendell Borgschot, but he stranded at third base.

Kinheim added two runs in the fourth inning when Rafael Jozefa doubled (with one out) and Björn Henrichs singled (with two outs) and both scored on a triple by Niels de Weert. An RBI-double by Bryan Engelhardt accounted for the next run in the fifth inning, then Kinheim rallied for five runs in the sixth, highlighted by a 3-run double by Engelhardt and an RBI-triple by Jozefa. Trailing 10-1, Sparta-Feyenoord scored its next run in the eighth when Borgschot doubled again, then scored another run in the ninth when Borgschot was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Konica Minolta Pioniers vs. L&D Amsterdam Pirates, 4-1

HOOFDDORP (Neth.) - Konica Minolta Pioniers won 4-1 to hand L&D Amsterdam Pirates its third loss in a row. Pioniers took a 2-1 lead in the first inning, then added two more in the eighth when veteran Dè Flanegin hit a 2-run homerun. Pionier-starter Eddie Aucoin allowed only one Amsterdam-player to reach third base, which led the their lone run in the first at bat.

Amsterdam opened the game with a run in the first inning when Roeland Henrique, Jr. led off with a triple and scored on a following grounder by Zaïr Koeiman, but that was to be all for the team. In the next eight innings, Pirates added only three more basehits and only two runners reached second base off Eddie Aucoin. The Pionier-starter struckout five and was relieved in the ninth by Maarten Mulder, who retired the side, including two strikeouts.

Pioniers started the game almost the same as its opponent. Jefferson Muzo led off with a triple and scored on an one-out grounder by Norbert Lokhorst. Next, Mark Duursma walked and scored on a single by Dè Flanegin to give Pioniers a 2-1 lead. From here on, Amsterdam-starter Jos de Jong also didn't allow that much players to the bases, as Pioniers hit only two more basehits in the next six innings. In the eighth, reliever and former Pionier Al Morales Gomes (who had taken over the inning before) hit lead-off hitter Norbert Lokhorst with a pitch, then gave up an one-out homerun to Dè Flanegin, that increased the lead to 4-1.

Mr. Cocker HCAW vs. DOOR Neptunus, 4-11
BUSSUM (Neth.) - League-leader DOOR Neptunus defeated Mr. Cocker HCAW 11-4 on Saturday to register its seventh victory in a row. The Rotterdam-team collected 17 basehits, including four by Martijn Meeuwis and a 3-run homerun by Raily Legito.

Neptunus decided the game with a 5-run rally in the first inning. In the first inning, HCAW-starter Kevin Miner walked lead-off hitter Eugène Kingsale, then gave up a single to Dwayne Kemp and an RBI-double by Raily Legito. With one out, Marvin Bleij, Eldrion Regina, Martijn Meeuwis, Jeroen Sluijter and Shaldimar Daantji all also singled to raise the lead to 5-0. Three runs were then added in the sixth inning. Shaldimar Daantji led off with a single and Eugène Kingsale walked, then Raily Legito homered with one out.

HCAW was silenced by Diegomar Markwell in the five innings he pitched. The lefthander gave up four hits, but allowed only one runner to reach third base. Trailing 8-0, in the sixth, off reliever Richard Orman, HCAW scored its first two runs thanks to a 2-run double by Randy Daal. Neptunus reacted with three runs of its own in the seventh. The first was scored on the fourth single in the game by Martijn Meeuwis, then a single by Eugène Kingsale and an error made it 11-2.

In the eighth, HCAW scored another run on back-to-back doubles by Adrian Anthony and Michael Pluijmers, then scored another one in the ninth on a single by Quensley Bazoer.

Almere Magpies vs. ADO, 3-2 (10)
ALMERE (Neth.) - In the evening, Almere Magpies had only two basehits vs. ADO, but went on to win 3-2 in 10 innings. Starting pitchers Bobby Carrington (ADO) and Sten van de Bedem each gave up only one basehit in seven innings. Van de Bedem threw seven complete innings, Carrington was relieved in the seventh with one out after Almere scored twice on its lone basehit at that moment, a 2-run single by pinch-hitter Jaïr Roseburg, which gave Almere a 2-1 lead. ADO tied the score in the eighth inning to force extra innings. Almere scored its winning run in the tenth on a grounder by Juriën Overman.

Both teams were hitless in the first four innings. Almere-starter Sten van de Bedem gave up his first hit in the fifth when Koen Meershoek singled to advance Matt Ryan (who had led off with a walk), who later scored the opening run on a grounder by Michel Korzeniewski. ADO-starter Bobby Carrington did even better, as he took a No-Hitter into the seventh inning. Until then, he had allowed only four Almere-players to reach base. The first two happened in the first inning when he walked lead-off hitter Wesley Bernardus and then hit next batter Sytse Visbeen with a pitch. A strikeout and double play then followed and Carrington retired the next 16 batters in a row, before walking two batters with two outs in the sixth. In the seventh, with one out, Almere loaded the bases when Joey Berkenbosch struckout, but reached on a throwing error and Ferd van Stekelenburg and Juriën Overman walked. Next, pinch-hitter Jaïr Roseburg registered the first Almere-hit, which gave his team a 2-1 lead. Hereafter, Carrington was relieved by Martijn Riphagen. Siegert Flaneur, the first batter he faced, grounded to short, which led to Overman being thrown out at the plate trying to score, but also resulted in a collision with catcher Remco Seitzinger having to leave the game with an injury.

ADO then tied the score in the eighth inning off new pitcher Joep de Wit when Koen Meershoek led off with a single and scored on a single by Boudewijn van Elswijk. Almere then left the bases loaded in its eighth and ADO was close to a run in the ninth, but then Frans Richardson was thrown out at the plate trying to score on a 2-out single. In the tenth, Almere decided the game. Mitchell Graham led off with a double and advanced on a sacrifice bunt. Almere got the bases loaded thanks to two intentional walks and then a grounder by Juriën Overman could only be turned into a force play, while Graham scored the winning run.
