ST. PETERSBURG, Florida (USA) -
Dutch righthander Rick van den Hurk has made his second appearance for the Baltimore Orioles since being recalled on September 1.
On Sunday, Van den Hurk threw 2 1/3 inning in relief when he followed starter Jeremy Guthrie in the sixth inning against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Guthrie gave up seven hits and seven runs and was credited with his 17th loss of the season.
In the first four innings, Tampa Bay had taken a 7-0 lead off Guthrie, then Baltimore scored its first run in the fifth at bat when Adam Jones homered.
In the sixth, Van den Hurk took over and gave up a 2-out homerun to Matt Joyce.
In the seventh, Van den Hurk retired the side.
He then walked Johnny Damon with one out in the eighth and got runners on second and third base when next batter Evan Longoria reached on an error.
Hereafter, Van den Hurk was replaced by Zach Phillips, who completed the game, which was won by Tampa Bay with an 8-1 score.
In November last year, Guthrie and Jones joined Van den Hurk on the successful first European Baseball Tour in the Netherlands and Belgium.
